Anyone here experiencing high temperatures with a macbook pro..I am thinking of opening mine up and sorting the thermal grease. The temperature gauge is showing in the region of 65 on idle and 80 degrees when running cpu intensive apps.

I have a 2.16 core duo with 2Gb ram any of the gurus tried this yet?

have you opened it up before?

the thermal greese thing turned out to be bogus, most people when they dismantled discovered that they acidently removed a sensor wire... meaning the sensor never knew it was running hot there fore the fans never went

if your mbp is under warrenty id send it to apple if I were you....

if not id run a hardware test and see if any faults are found

sometimes the most unlikly application can cause the graphix card or hard disc to run meaning the MBP uses the fans to keep it all cooler. Even some internet pages you may open in safari can cause this I have found.

My mbp is running at about 50 degrees and im not running much but I am in a warmer climate and I have the 2.33ghz model

Interesting I am going to try and run a hardware test later, I currently use SMCFAN CONTROL to cool it down but really not making a difference, I see that it drops by about 5 degrees sometimes but from 80 to 75 is still damn hot. Its been idle and its currently running at 61.

Though the thermal greece thing has sometimes proved bogus it has also proved true...sadly my warrently just ran out and I didnt get apple care..and really cant do without my mac its my life source at the moment.

That reminds me I best be backing up tonight...justtt incase.....

I have the faster model too. 60 is average and fans go off all the time.

Apple says it's normal, which is sad because it's too damn hot.
