dpreview shots look great. If this is pre release firmware, can't wait for the images on final firmware.

Nothing special really.. standard 1.4 micron performance.

"standard 1.4 micron performance" that just made me laugh..

especially when you crop areas that are clearly out of focus..

Why did you pick areas which are not in focus? At least the area in the lowest photo that you picked is not in focus. Im sure we can find imperfections in full size 808 pv shots as well if thats what you look for. No one said it is perfect but to me anyway it looks better than an average 1.4 micron performance.

I feel another crop is coming soon...

It's not out of focus, it's blurred out by Sony post-processing algorithm to hide sensor "imperfections". -.-

come on.. depth of focus people. at F2.0, depth of focus is pretty short. in the 1st photo, the focus is clearly not on the trees in the background so obviously they will be blurred. in the 2nd photos, the focus is clearly not on the concrete pillars in the far right (which was cropped). again, obviously they will be blurred.

these "troll" like comments are starting to get ridiculous. is it perfect in every way? no, but cropping out unfocused areas of a picture and claiming it to be "standard performance" is pretty outlandish.

To a certain degree i agree, areas off center look a bit degraded and not necessarily because its out of focus.

I am not looking at the focus, i am looking at the IQ .. noise/grain levels are in line with any other 1.4 micron sensor at full resolution.

Its neither bad or good, it just is.

Downsizing those full resolution images to 3-4Mpix using something like Lanczos you might be able to get something with above average IQ.

Oh, and btw the 808 has tons of imperfections.. no camera is perfect.

@tyko - the center of a photo isn't always the focus point of the frame

@cu015170 - point taken. but for proto firmware, it is a drastic improvement from the Z and definitely holding its own, if not beating, the other top competitors in the field (S4/One/G2/Iphone)

But to have 20 mp pics where IQ are on par or even a bit better than the current 13 mp phones, isnt that the achievement? No one was expecting miracles...
