I think the iphone is not for "smart phone power users"
Simple and short.
I'm in search of mobile broadband. Any news on 3G? The CDMA guys making noise about EVDO are not offering full mobility i.e. Direct access and usage on mobile devices, and their coverage is still pretty limited. Starcomms EVDO, for example, is not available at my location. Help!

Following this report by Punch newspaper, 3G roll out is not far off, probably this quarter.

@ AYA i have to fault you on 2 things..the entry is in no way cramped..touchscreen qwerty with large buttons is much better than p990i tiny qwerty buttons. and about the compressing of data..the iphone was not made with nigerua in mind...its not apples fault that mere gprs cost a fortune..for thier wider mkt(wich i doubt countries like nigeria with poor services will make up to 1%)...they dont have rip off gprs cost..most have unlimited data plans available so technically lack of opera is not a problem...for those without gprs or egde is still very available..so the 2 points really dont knock the iphone from bein a smartphone...bout the 3rd party apps..ur spot on for that..but no phone is perfect...and apparently something is in the works officialy by apple..although u can hack(which is not that hard) your iphone to put 3rd party apps on it(limited to a few)

I am directing this post at the diehard Nokia loyalists on this forum.
My boss's wife just got an E65 and I had to transfer contacts from her old N70. She had no computer and no data cables so backing up via pc was not an option. I proceeded to mark all entries in the phonebook and send via BT. I couldn't believe my eyes as the Nokia connection began to send the contacts one by one via 736 text messages. I was thus forced to open each one in order 2 save them. Each text took approx 7seconds to open & 2secs 2 save. this same operation on an SE would take 1mim & 1 text. someone pls tell me what makes these phones smart?

@amby: Haba! New nokia phones including the E and N series have an advanced data tranfer facility that tranfers contacts through bluetooth. I've used it several times to move contacts en bloc ftom one nokia phone to another. And it is fast. Read the E65 manual.

@mariwun: knowing how clumsy a touchscreen is when using ur hand (not a stylus) im wondering how "big" the qwerty keyboard would be on the iphone. I have no problems using rhe P990's keyboard. Its way faster than any other method of text input i have ever used. I gotta go online and see if there is any footage of someone typing on the iphone. The curvature on the p990's keyboard makes it small but less clumsy.
I tried out the gdesk but wasnt too wowwed over it. Maybe if i try out some of the add-ons i'd be more impressed.
Barka da Sallah every1!

?Don't mind me, I am a freak for themes and UI enhancements. That is how I discovered Esato in 2003...looking for themes and screensavers for my SE T310.

@mariwun: As Abubakar has said, typing on the iPhone is not the best. Many users and reviewers have compared text input on the iPhone with other proper smartphones, and if fell short consistently.
For example, between the iPhone, the W950 and the E61i, the iPhone returned the slowest times, and the E61i the fastest. The hen-pecking style text input on the iPhone cannot return any better results.
As for the iPhone being a smartphone; no it is not. It is a very good feature phone, but certainly not a smartphone. Installable 3rd party applications is a core characteristic of smartphones. The iPhone fails there.
The iPhone is good as a mass market device with appeal and does well in that department. It is good for accessing data e.g. Web browsing. A proper smartphone does far more than that and is more for creating/producing.
I am typing this rather long post on my E61i and in just a few moments. Try typing it on the iPhone and you get the idea. I have applications installed on the E61i that makes it a computing powerhouse that the iPhone can only pretend to be in its dreams but will never be, simply because its extensibility is next to zero.
The iPhone may meet your personal needs, and I have no foundation on which to say that it does not. The iPhone may have a great user-interface, and I daresay that only a pretender will say it does not. But the iPhone is not a smartphone and delivers less productivity than ANY true smartphone does.

Go to TOOLS. There you will find DATA TRANSFER
