SE freak, maybe you have replaced the wrong files.
I maybe have workaround with this, but as I said, maybe...hehe
Change your CDA with Singapore CDA first, then proceed to update your firmware as usual, once your firmware is updated. Start the whole procedure once again, this time try to change your CDA to GW1. I think it might work.
The reason I said that because it is easier to replace files from Singapore firmware because the filesize is quite near to the original one.

This is an excellent thread, quite revolutionary really. Shouldn't it be a sticky?

djpianz,
the phone has successfully been changed to world gen. 1 but the phone is showing all locks closed. Will the cda change unlock the phone?
I have tried to replace the files that i had removed but it is still at generic world 1, but it will not flash back to vodafone.
will try the singapore cda
cheers

Changing CDA with SEUS will NOT unlock/lock your handset in anyway. it just updates firmware!

If it's so, then it should accept the original sim card it was intended for. Should have no problem detecting network/sim because nothing has been done to change the lock/unlock state.

Help!!!
i have managed to install world generic 1 but when i start the phone the sim card is not accepted it says "invalid simcard"
i have reflashed the phone several times and even deleted the db folder
when i hold down c and put it into the cradle, a blue screen flashes for a second on the phone
i have a Vodafone P990i
I had this issue - mine was branded Voda - I changed the CDA to WG1 and upgraded via SEUS and I got SIM card errors - it turned out to be I had a 2G O2 sim card and I needed to disable the search for 3G networks in Control Panel/Connections/Mobile Networks - strange thing was it used to sometimes work OK but mostly not - I guess it was dependent on whether a 3g or 2g network was found first by the phone.

This sounds very interesting. I have a M600i with the horrible Vodafone branding, does someone have the needed files for the M600i World Generic OS?

Does anyone have the world generic files for the W950i? It would be good to get rid of the Vodafone branding on mine.
