it's limited only for those people which need more features than K800 can offer. about which features are you talking about? EDGE, Symbian? there is a huge difference between "I have Symbian (blink-blink) in my phone" and "I have Symbian in my phone and I know how to use it". after many years with Symbian phones (user, software developer, gamer) I should not be able to live without it, wrong... 'limited' K800 is my choice

my choice too. i love this phone! the camera is out of this world for my needs
however i hav never used a symbian phone with all that said. just for the primary function of k800i (camera) it is in a league of its own!

K800 - looks like a digicam with a built-in phone
K810 - looks like a phone with a built-in digicam
N73 - looks like a... phone.

true that...

I also go for K800 rather than N73. K800 has java multitasking so for most basic purposes K800 is just as flexible as N73.

K800 looks better, faster UI, doesn't crash or lock up, better still camera, use Opera Mini for a browser just as good as N73, jsr-75 for file management, multi-tasking through most functions (listen to music while java, internet, multiple java apps etc), 3G for internet, streaming (K790 for edge), well placed external buttons including play button (now removed from SE phones).

N73 only offers as an advantage qvga recording (correct me if I'm wrong) and the s60 application platform - and if you are already used to using JAVA there are very few s60 apps that provide functionality that J2me apps can't offer. However Answering machines is one thing Java doesn't do. Neither does WM for that matter. N73 also offers more customisable UI than K800 A100. (Note A200 now offers shortcuts to j2me apps - though s60 is still more customisable)

Well if i want 3G and EDGE both, K800 wont cut it. Apparently its a sin to have both 3G and EDGE on one phone.
And there is no application for JAVA phones to play DIVX videos (core player) and no application to block calls and SMS.

it's rare that you need both edge and 3g in one handset, but yes if that is a requirement then K800 don't cut it.

In my experience even though you can get divx player for s60 (and wm of course) you still need to rip videos to a lower res and bitrate than those videos that are downloaded to play on a computer. So if you have to re-rip videos anyway what does it matter about divx support. Very few phones from that era could play video of anything but the basic 320x240 res.

btw, SE phones can play divx video native as long is it's encapsulated in mp4. (with a res of 320x240 or less, and bitrate of about 325 or less).

Re: blocking calls by phone number yes it's true, though there is a white list on SE phones (accept only those callers on the list). You can block all outgoing calls. For K750 there was a patch that turned your white list into a black list but imho not for K800.

i dont know about N73, but W950 being much older could play near VGA at 25fps in .avi format
and its just much easier because most videos are divx and converting takes a lot of time.

that's true up to a point but if you get a high bitrate it won't play right and you are back to recoding.

Even in todays smartphones which are much more capable I still find it often necessary to re-rip videos to watch them properly. The fact is a phone is never going to be as powerful as a computer when it comes to multimedia.

The way I look at it if you want something to play well on a phone - you look at res and bitrate - if it's within performance guidelines of the phone well and good, if not you need to recode. Even then it's sometimes worth recoding - for example some youtube video at 480x360 is quite crap quality and recoding to 320x240 actually sharpens it up and since K800/W910 has 320x240 display - plays perfectly and looks better than it does on the samsung at 480x360.

However I agree, smartphones are better video performers than non-smartphone such as a100/a200. I'm not sure what N73 was capable of in terms of bitrate and res.

I admit I like the fact that my Samsung i780 plays almost anything I throw at it (though I've never tried HD quality video). I think if I wanted to watch DVD's I'd still rip specifically for the phone and the computer as two separate files one designed for phone playing and one much higher quality for the computer

Why don't you go for a p1 for e.g...? K800 and N73 (even K810) are all older and outdated models. Or maybe the G900 would be great for you? Check their performance and features on www.gsmarena.com
