That was just a thought of mine. 'S' doesn't necessarily have to mean swivel though, it could be extended to sliders as well. Wouldn't be too bad considering there's only been one (not including the S600) swivel in the family.
Like the Z series started off with the Z700 which wasn't really a clamshell (which was subsequently followed by the oddly named Z1010).

@dragoneye: the W900 was supposed to be the S700's successor, but it seems to be inclined more on the 'walkman' features than on 'cybershot' features.

actually the w900 was the closest thing to walkman and cybershot...hanging out together IMO.. and it threw in some handycam for good measue...
the w900 2.0 is the best.. it has the spotmetry meter that first appeared in the s700 and also an auto flash mode.
definitely a worthy s700 sucessor imo.

What is W900 2.0? Is there different version of W900?

@Dragoneye
I agree, and it is puzzling how the W900i's capabilities haven't reappeared in another model.
Will the cam on the new 2.0mp Cybershot be as good as that on the W900i?
When will we see the W900i's video capabilities (15 - 30fps recording) appear on successive models?
Will the next high-end phone be both Cyber-shot and Walkman branded?
Do people still think a handset will appear with 'HandyCam' branding?
Questions, Questions.
Its seems the W900i is a peculiar phone indeed.

good point there dragoneye. i must admit that its camera features are indeed worthy of notice, what with the good features of the S700 (spot photometry) and K750 (auto focus) combined. however, it doesn't have the looks of a typical digicam, something the S700 has...
and by the way, in your post, you mentioned "
W900 2.0".i presume you mean the W900's 2.0MP camera?

I'd say so. The K750, W800, W810, D750 and W900 all shared the same camera and Eldar said that the camera is the same as the K750's. The W900's photos seemed superior in my opinion because of an ability to process the photos better (hardware) and that the firmware was more advanced than the K750's one. I can only expect that the K650 will have even more superior photos to the old ones.

Course we will
Just a matter of time. SE can't keep ignoring it.
Will the next high-end phone be both Cyber-shot and Walkman branded?
Never IMO. SE has separated the two, and both brands can't surely be on the one phone can it? The W900 was still technically a
Maybe, one day, there will be an Ultimate series with both features, but at the moment SE can't afford to produce then as resources are being spent on increasing profit through mid range phones. High end phones don't make much profit for the company.
Do people still think a handset will appear with 'HandyCam' branding?
Don't think so, and I don't hope so either. Handycam has probably, and should be, merged with the Cybershot brand. Cameras are cameras, and restricting Cybershots to QCIF is crazy!
EDIT: The K650 might not be 3G anymore, but I guess it could come in two variants. Anyone else agree?

I wouldnt make a hard generalization about profits being low on high end phones. I dont have current data to challenge that, but I'll bet that making the M600 is cheaper than the P990i and that THAT is cheaper than the W950i (due to the HDD incasing & built-in shock protection, and case smooth velvet like finish). I'll bet the R&D spent on the P990i went into both and is now paying dividends. SE optionally could make a new Cybershot phone with same specs as the K800 in a different case - W900's video chip as I'm sure their still under purchasing stock contract - a case not to specialized and make significant profits. The screen is sufficient and economies of scale would benefit the company as well.
> SE keeps evolving and recent record profits continue that. I'll completely agree that
and Cybershot brands will not unite. Features will be in that Black Diamond executive class.

But wasnt the w900 video cpabilities only down to the 3D accelerator built in.
Im sur Eldar said the review that this was the reason for such high video recording capabilites but also the reason behind its battery life being lower than normal SE phones.
If this so, then why havent SE used that chip in other models since.
The must though surley improve the video.

@bavlondon
I have heard it said that the W900i was also a sort of test-bed for upcoming tech such as the 3D chip and Video capabilities. So these will be incorporated into upcoming handsets - eventually.
Being able to disable the AF in the W900i set it apart from the K750i so maybe that version of the cam, with improvements, will appear soon too.
