Why can't they just have a one off fee? What could be simpler? and this?

The 85p per day charge and monthly data subscription cannot be used for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services such as Skype or Peer-to-Peer services (such as instant messenger services, text messaging clients or file sharing). These services will not count towards the 85p per day charge or monthly bundle, and are charged separately at £1.70 per MB, with a 4p minimum charge for each data session.

So, you are charged seperately for sending emails, using msn etc Shocking!!!

T-Mobile done a survey and something like 60% of people now use their phone for accessing the web and emails etc.

Judging by Vodafones effort, they obviously believe that people using their handsets to do anything other than make calls is a novelty.

Hi all,

These new data tariffs are meant to be as good as T-mobiles offerings and have been coming now for nearly a Year and i can still not see any evidence of them.

It appears Vodafone think you will be hard pushed to use 15mb of Data in a day, well maybe if you only use Wap but if you are using the full Internet it is not difficult at all. The fact you can't even use it for IM possibly one of the more popular applications and that they will then charge you £1.70 per MB is truly unreal.

@Superluminova

Sorry if this seems like Voda bashing but IMO it is only what they deserve for saying they are going to be as good as T-Mobiles data tariffs and then coming out with these stupid plans that are not even close to being competitive. I just love the way they state they are giving you the next 14.5MB for free, how very kind of them NOT.

Point of view from Ericsson:

"As higher speed services have been introduced on 3G networks, the rate of traffic growth has accelerated (just as we saw with fixed network as broadband arrived). Ericsson estimates that data traffic on mobile networks will overtake voice traffic in the next three to four years."

It wouldn't surprise me if t-mobile was the market leader for some time to come.

Anyway, we get to see the new O2 tariff information this evening don't we

Ok so far the new Tarrifs.

Shop Tariffs, Sms for 18 month are going up from 100 sms to 500 sms on £35+ Tariffs.

£35+ Tariffs will go from the standard of 100kb free allowence to 500kb free allowence.

£10 for 20mb of data allowence after the 20mb its £3 per mb, (This is for both online and shop Tarifs i believe)

for £35+ tariffs you now get a choice of either o2 long weekends Calls (2000 mins)
Or O2 Long weekends SMS (2000 SMS)
The above applies to both shop and online.

Online still get 1mb of inclusive Wap.

If i get any more info i will let you know

Its the data tariff that disappoints me. How can O2 imagine to compete with T-Mobiles web and walk. £10 for 20MB compared to £7.50 for 3GB

Hi all,

Well from all the talk from staff members from 02 and Voda i really was expecting something special, and i am not blaming you guys as you were good enough to relay what you had been informed.

But to say this is not any sort of response from 02 and Voda would be an understatement, even those of you that work for these Networks if you intend to use Data it will work out cheaper if you get a rolling T-mobile £7.50 a month rolling contract and 50mins and add £7.50 Web N Walk tariff.

As i have said before as more users due to the devices available and the speed start using mobile data the Networks that don't offer competitive deals will just suffer huge churn and a lack of new customers. Even corporates may start to churn and just port there numbers as basically they are being over charged and ripped off. There is no logical reasons 2 networks can do it and the others can't other than IMHO greed.

Same here, got the new May brochure sitting in front of me.

tariffs in full are as follows:

12 MONTH:

£20 - 25 mins 50 texts 100kb data
£25 - 100 mins 100 texts 100kb data
£25 Leisure - 750 off peak minutes 125 texts, 100kb data
£30 - 200 mins 250 texts 100kb data
£35 - 300 mins 250 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for 6 months
£40 - 400 mins 250 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for 6 months
£50 - 600 mins 250 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for 6 months
£75 - 900 mins 250 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for 6 months

18 MONTH:

£20 - 50 mins 100 texts 100kb data
£25 - 200 mins 200 texts 100kb data
£25 Leisure - 1500 mins off peak 250 texts 100kb data
£30 - 400 mins 200 texts 100kb data
£35 - 600 mins 500 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for life
£40 - 800 mins 500 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for life
£50 - 1200 mins 500 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for life
£75 - 1800 mins 500 texts 512kb data + long weekends calls or texts for life

Long Weekends: changes are that you choose between 2000 weekend mins or 2000 weekend text units (1 per text, 4 per mms, 4 per roaming text which is from abroad back to the UK) at point of purchase. 12 month contracts are stuck with their choice for the 6 months they have it, where as 18 month contracts can change their choice of calls or texts every 3 months.

The new staff tariff is to die for tho
As mention earlier, its 1000 mins, 1000 texts, 75MB of data, Long Weekends calls or texts (not sure how often you are allowed to change it or how long you get it for as the minimum contract on this one is 12 months) plus if you choose a Blackberry devices you get the Blackberry Unlimited package for free (unlimited up to 75MB a month fair usage of Blackberry push emails) all for £20 a month 12 month contract, handsets priced at same as consumer £35 a month.

Only problem I've got now is working out how to get rid of my Three contract thats got 10 months left lol.
