@qvga
let me confirm first, have you '''used''' (not played with one for 10sec) the e50 to say it has better sound quality and a better media player?

no, i just bought in a e50 because nokia addressed all flaws that were in older phones without any increase in price. infact N70 more expensive than E50

You can try the PowerMP3 which gives better sound than nokia player on the N70 and it comes quite close to K750 mp3 player. You can also download the free Ogg player. There is also wma player. And for video you can try smartmovie or divx player. N70 also supports streamed Realplayer, Flash Lite and Opera browser is bundled. And not to mention PDF and Office docs. This beats your K750 hands down.
N70 video rec maybe crapy compared to dedicate handy cam but it was the best pre-N93 days and even today no SE phone can beat it.
I have used the O2 Atom for a brief period and I just cannot see how WM can have better multi-tasking. Memory leaks on WM is certainly worse than Symbian. My N70 has 32Mb free RAM on boot whereas the O2 has a few MB less and WM apps have much bigger footprint than Symbian.
So like I say, if you sweep aside your personal preferences, N70 is definitely much more capable phone than K750 (except for photo).

E50 has exactly the same sound quality as K750, plus it has a better media player. So there you go
I'll have to look at the E50 to be sure of that. If you can tell me exactly what is better about it I'll take your word for it. However it's camera is nowhere near up to the standard of the K750, so I'll have to stick with the K750 for now

must admit software is fantastic on the n95 since the new firmware has been released, loving the phone. only problem is it shows the message received time as the time on the phone so if you turn off your phone and turn it back on it will set the message received time as the time u turn on the handset and not the time it was sent that is the only problem i find with the n95.

the only thing bad in E50 is camera, but thats not the phone's point anyway. you get something you loose something...

thanks for those app hints mib, I'll look them up.
My liking of multi-tasking in WM is more the interface (running programs) which is more useful. I must say though I've pushed my xda mini quite hard at times and the only problem is I have to manually end applications via task manager when memory gets tight. Symbian does that automatically when more system resources are needed. I admit this is a feature that would be good to incorporate into WM, but I would want control over what apps get shutdown (ie be ableto say "leave this one going").
And as to sweeping aside personal preferences, it's not as simple as that. If one finds a phone easier to use, it obliterates many performance advantages of other phones. For example, the inability to advance tracks or change volume via hard coded buttons on the N70, obliterates the usefulness of the N70 as an MP3 player regardless of the quality of the apps installed.
You always take the view that an s60 device has an automatic advantage over any non-smartphone simply as a matter of fact, but that's only the case if you are comparing phones as application platforms, but when you start to throw other features and hardware into the mix, the overall total package can often outweigh the advantages of having an application platform on the phone.
A smartphone advocate like yourself will always find any smartphone superior to virtually any non-smartphone. A camera advocate like myself will always find a phone with good quality camera with AF and active lense cover superior to any phone that has a camera without those features.
But everyone in the middle will be swayed by many things that are more important to them than application support or cameras.

yes it's an advantage, but I can also use gmail for reading of office docs via email, and I can save docs from office as html and they display on the K750 almost as well as on the N70 viewers.
I'm still well and truly leaning towards a WM device as a smartphone in preference to N70 as a smartphone. So if I was to change my K750 as my primary phone with either of my two smartphones it would be for the xda mini. I won't do that because of the K750 camera

What are you talking about? Music player (3rd party ones as well) uses the d-pad to control music. In the default nokia player, left/right controls volume and up/down switches track. If I remember correctly, there arent any dedicate player buttons in K750 either unlike the w800.

I have the opposite impression. WM menu system is so tedious. To get to the Program you need press "start" + 1 tab using stylus or 3 clicks using d-pad. In the vanilla version of wm5, the task manager is hidden so deep in the settings.
However, WM5 Today screen plug-in capability beats S60 by miles. PIMs is also better. But basic phone integration is still very crude and unstable. There is still no proper built-in profile system, no photo contacts (I know u can get 3rd party ones like spl phone suite but this is a hog on processor)
but when you start to throw other features and hardware into the mix, the overall total package can often outweigh the advantages of having an application platform on the phone.
If you want a AIO device, then smartphone (S60 or WM) it is. Otherwise you need to buy a baggy pants with many pockets to put the many devices which you need to carry. And that is the crux of the matter.
