@slug Don't confuse Sony with SE. Theyare different companies ! Yes there are related but that's it. If Sony or Ericsson run into trouble of some sort it should not mean SE is in trouble too - and the other way around. In other words - is not a excuse

Regarding innovation, well, you can't say SE is not trying.

Just look at the keypad layout of the K850. Isn't that a maverick move on their part. It's not revolutionary, well not yet. But its new.

Also, what new things can you do to a phone today? Its not like there's any new tech out there.

However, I think SE and all phone companies should pay some attention to forums like these, specifically threads like this, so that they'll not just rely on their own R&D outputs but get the lowdown on what their customers are saying.

It's not a division either. It's a separate independent company.

in my country

SE is in second place after Nokia

the high-end phones arent too popular here.

the best selling here for SE are J220i, J230i, K310i, K510i for last year and this year.

for 2007 phone, the best selling are K610i, K618i, K530i and W660i -
why?
simple answer, cheap and nice design

people in my country doesnt really care about phone features,
mostly rich people here that care about features or someone that really want a good focus features (K800i for camera, W810i-for music, P990i for office application)

so each phone has its own market and it work in my country.......

so for me, low and mid-end phone are usefull.

I think SE find the mid-low strategy has problem and their high phone is not doing good, so they change the ECO.

I agree, low-mid end mobiles are the best sellers-I consider the w580 a mid phone BUT its PRICE of 370 euros is no MID at all. And then again, with the quality issues.....

It's not that i expect them to engage in a spec race and cram dozens of features in a device whose battery will last half a day, but frankly i am also sick and bored with the releases of twins/replicas/clones of past successful models.

And what's wrong with 'twins/replicas/clones' anyway. It's quite common in industry to take proven technology from the 'parts bin' for which the development costs have already been recovered and repackage them with a few added features and new styling. It's called profitability, something has and Motorola for instance does not.

A few years ago VW did the Golf MK5. SEAT, Skoda and Audi all borrowed the floorplan and engines and in all there were 17 'clones' of the Golf! Did anyone complain that thier VW new beetle or Audi TT was a Golf under the skin? No!

Why is it that some owners feel personally affronted that hasn't read thier minds in time for the next free upgrade?

IMO 's user friendly UI makes features easily accessable and it's more likely for me to use these features. That's where REAL innovation is IMO.
