Here's another go, now with more time to write:
> 1. Newer Symbian OS core with demand paging
Not needed. Lots of memory on new phones. Almost every P1 user never experienced an out of memory.
> 2. Full UI Rotation (built-in user initiated)
UIQ3 supports it natively. Is up to the programmer to implement it. Overridable by 3rd party software.
> 3. Fully Customizable Main Menu (sub-menu, changeable icons)
Standby screen of the P1 is configurable enough. So configurable I never tried other 3rd party applications.
> 4. Speaker-Independent Voice Dialing
I use voice dialing almost every day. It's not perfect, but works. I don't want others to voice dial my phone, so what's the use of that again?
> 5. Integrated In-Phone Search (contact/message/bookmarks etc)
Third party applications can do this, but I agree it would be nice though.
http://www.allaboutsymbian.co[....]item/Easy_Search_for_UIQ_3.php
> 6. Customizable Profiles (with its own ringtones etc)
Agreed. It's a company policy no one seems to understand.
> 7. Phone Call recording
Agreed. It's a company security policy.
> 8. PTT support
Never knoew anyone that used that on Nokias. Did you ever use it? (Sincerely?)
> 9. uPNP support
3rd party: CorePlayer Mobile
> 10. WMA format drm support
3rd party: CorePlayer Mobile and others.
> 11. Free Navigable Map of the world
It's an application. We also have 3rd party applications with maps.
> 12. 3D Gaming Platform - Ngage
Almost nobody uses that. It's a marketing play from Nokia.
> 13. Web-browser with Flash support
Correction: Flash Lite. Which by the way is so rare to find sites that is almost as if it doesn't exist.
Soon on UIQ (let's hope)
> 14. Blog/Direct Video/Audio Upload from Gallery
Better use a good browser on a decent web page, don't you think?
> 15. Threaded/Chat-Based SMS
It's a funny feature, but no different of pressing the reply button each time you receive a message, right?
> 16. Direct Microsoft Exchange Support
It's called DataViz RoadSync.
> 17. WIFI-g standard support
I dare you to show me that the native Nokia web browser can handle the full speed of a G network. If it can, congratulations. B it's quite good too imho.
> 18. Speech support (i.e. read-out sms etc)
That's interesting, but unless it talks perfectly in your native language (Russian, Arab, etc), it's of no use.
It's software implemented and may be will available on UIQ on the future (but I see no one asking for it).
> 19. Accelerometer support
Unless you use it as a Nintendo Wii controller, it's of no use for a business phone.
> 20. Off-line/Flight mode without SIM card
Nokia it's a thiefs dream! I'm glad the UIQ doesn't login without SIM card.
> 21. Zip File support
It's freeware on UIQ
> 22. Video PodCast support e.g youtube (via Video Centre)
The embedded media player plays these. The problem is always the same: Routers and firewalls.
> 23. Presence Support.
I have no idea what is this... and Google doesn't help.
> 24. Internal GPS support
That's nice, but I would not sacrifice the P1 size for it.
> 25. ActiveNotes (notes with support for embedded video / audio / image).
Notes with support for sketches are more useful, trust me on this. I use them frequently.
> 26. Windows Live / Hotmail / WL Spaces native support
Funny, most users today are using GMail (and others), so what is the use of *native* support?
Non native support means it's configurable for everything.
> 27. RealPlayer
It's embedded on the MediaPlayer.
> 28. PC Suite support on Mac l
Have you heard of the iSync plugin?
> 29. Setup Multi-Party Conference Call with one click (TeamSuite)
My phone does conference call. Never tried it though...
> 30. Download! (direct software download)
I do software downloads from the browser. Movies and stuff with the wifi network, then open them in the media player. What are you talking about?
> 31. Video Ringtone support
Oh c'mon! Most people don't even use a photo for contacts!
> 32. Sports / Wellness bundle (with pedometer) new
If it's bundle, then it's not embedded. Pedometer has limited usability in a *business* phone.
> 33. Much more 3rd Party Software Support
Obviously, because they are older and cheaper phones (more user base). And please stop comparing all software from all Nokias to the single UIQ 3.0 ok? It's not fair.
> 34. Fully one-handed use.
It's a touch screen, it's not supposed do be used with on hand. The problem is that most users on UIQ are lazy learning because touch screen is so easy to use.
Finally:
You seem to be making a great effort to forget that the P1 is a *business* phone.
You don't investigate and keep posting lists full of rubbish.
Example, you don't even mention Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF), Exchange Active Sync and Blackberry Connect; SE free tools like LocationFreeTV, Disc2Phone (etc); nor the hardware of the P1 like how good it sounds playing music (dedicated audio DSPS) with *real* megabass, etc.
It's a real chalenge to read your list without having a nervous breakdown. lol

Well done man.
Although I don't agree with all 100%,
some spots are great,
true - I download tons of stuff through my phone...
So as usual it's utterly impossible to make such general judgements.

Like I say we are NOT doing a qualitative comparison. Some functions may not be important to you but doesnt mean to everyone.
This exercise is to do count of
substantial functionality different. And it is fair to include higher capability functions (like speaker independent voice dial) which bring much improvement over traditional voice tag method as an advantage.
And functions that can be done by 3rd party software should NOT be included. There will be no end. Taking this road will mean UIQ3 will be even more disadvantaged as we know for certainty there are more 3rd party software (doing more stuff) available for S60v3/WM than for UIQ3.
And NO hardware specific functionalities as this has nothing to do with platform/os.

See my opening statement above.
Even IF demand paging is not essential but UIQ3 is still using an outdated Symbian core.
> 2. Full UI Rotation (built-in user initiated)
UIQ3 supports it natively. Is up to the programmer to implement it. Overridable by 3rd party software.
But can you activate yourself like I can when I slide my N95 or tilt the N82? WM also can do this btw. UIQ3 dont have this then.

This is absolutely not true. Using web you have to nav to website, login and then select files and upload. While I am in gallery, I just select my blog/jpg/vid and click upload. That's it.
> 15. Threaded/Chat-Based SMS
It's a funny feature, but no different of pressing the reply button each time you receive a message, right?
Do you know what is threaded sms (the one where people are harping about in iphone)? It is a capability to show ALL sent/rec sms of a particular person in chronological order (like a chat)
> 17. WIFI-g standard support
I dare you to show me that the native Nokia web browser can handle the full speed of a G network. If it can, congratulations. B it's quite good too imho.
It is not just about speed. It is also about compatibility issue. wifi-b is so outdated that some hotspots dont enable it because it degrades the whole wifi performance.
> 18. Speech support (i.e. read-out sms etc)
That's interesting, but unless it talks perfectly in your native language (Russian, Arab, etc), it's of no use.
It's software implemented and may be will available on UIQ on the future (but I see no one asking for it).
There are language packs available for this software.
> 20. Off-line/Flight mode without SIM card
Nokia it's a thiefs dream! I'm glad the UIQ doesn't login without SIM card.
This is not true. There are 2 types of lock code. SIM lock and phone lock. Phone lock is always prompted (if enabled) whether you have sim or not.
> 22. Video PodCast support e.g youtube (via Video Centre)
The embedded media player plays these. The problem is always the same: Routers and firewalls.
Have any1 make it work on UIQ3? Do you have to do workaroud, nav to website etc. S60 Video centre works like a rss. You subscribe to the service then available video is pull down with just ONE click and with another click you are viewing the video already.
> 23. Presence Support.
I have no idea what is this... and Google doesn't help.
From what I know it is a location based service (using cell station/BT). Phone will tell you who are nearby that have your interest, hobby etc etc. And you can activate conversation with them.
> 25. ActiveNotes (notes with support for embedded video / audio / image).
Notes with support for sketches are more useful, trust me on this. I use them frequently.
OK. we call this equal then.
(fyi - With activenotes if you attach note to contact, the note is automatically displayed when the person call)
> 26. Windows Live / Hotmail / WL Spaces native support
Funny, most users today are using GMail (and others), so what is the use of *native* support?
This integrates to your phone mailbox/contacts for seemless use.
> 27. RealPlayer
It's embedded on the MediaPlayer.
Like I ask ares, can directly stream from a server within the player?
> 28. PC Suite support on Mac l
Have you heard of the iSync plugin?
OK. valid point
> 29. Setup Multi-Party Conference Call with one click (TeamSuite)
My phone does conference call. Never tried it though...
This is done with one click.
> 30. Download! (direct software download)
I do software downloads from the browser. Movies and stuff with the wifi network, then open them in the media player. What are you talking about?
But this one shows you what is avaialble for your phone with one click. No messing around with browser.
> 33. Much more 3rd Party Software Support
Obviously, because they are older and cheaper phones (more user base). And please stop comparing all software from all Nokias to the single UIQ 3.0 ok? It's not fair.
You can just compare what is available for s60v3 then. I dont think it is unfair to say S60V3 still have the upper hand.
> 34. Fully one-handed use.
It's a touch screen, it's not supposed do be used with on hand. The problem is that most users on UIQ are lazy learning because touch screen is so easy to use.
Go to the UIQ3 list. I have added TS as an advantage
> 32. Sports / Wellness bundle (with pedometer) new
If it's bundle, then it's not embedded. Pedometer has limited usability in a *business* phone.

OK. UIQ3 have active sync. I'll take out this as advantage for s60.
BB Connect may be an advantage. I am not sure whether S60 has this bundled.
What is disc2phone?
What is LocationTV? Is it streaming video? If it is then it has been mentioned. One other capability UIQ3 dont have is the implementation dvb-h standard (.e.g in N92)
P1/E90 are business devices but W9**/N95 are not. But they are using UIQ3/S60V3.

.
Office/pdf is available for S60 also but only e-series have edit option for office doc. I have already included this as an advantage of UIQ3.
Hardware related stuff should not be included as it is not related to the UI/OS. Otherwise I can include vga 30fps, 16m screen, EDGE, tv-out, stereo speakers etc.

I repeat myself:
YES! Online is the app which perfectly stream videos from servers.
And yes! I made it work many times.
Also, online blogging (automatic, no browser needed) is added for UiQ by SonyEricsson as a freeware, directly from the SE homepage. Both Shozu - many sites support like flickr - and Blogger.

Here's the proof that the P1 streams youtube, and that people's problems with streaming are on the their routers & firewalls:
It's a small video:

@mib1800
I'd rather make two clicks on a toucscreen, than your "one click" on the keyboard.
Ironically, for you to make your "one click" you frequently have to navigate menus with the cursors keys to reach the right place, so... I don't see your point!

Hi all,
There appears to be a little confusion at the moment as people are comparing the P1 to the N95 why? They may well be both smart phones but they are not both business smart phones and this is where there is a bigger difference between S60 and UIQ as in S60 you have two distinct ranges E Series which are business oriented devices and N series that are Multimedia smart phones. If you want to compare like for like compare the P1 to an E series device where there are more Buisness focused apps and additional active standby shortcuts options and the option of more information on the home screen that is user configurable not that is what we give you live with it and no need for a 3rd party app either. It is much more advanced than the N series Multimedia devices an for a good reason to.
Now with UIQ the only real difference application wise is the Walkman variant has a Walkman Player and no QWERTY keyboard some one correct me if this wrong.
As far as i am concerned the growth of smart phones is not going to be led by business they already have all they need for business in terms of functionality and take up is mature and used by those that want or need it. Growth in the smart phone market is going to be Multimedia led as more people start to use a smart phone and this really doesn't require business type apps to drive it. It is going to be about entertainment and social Networking and all the Web2.0 delivers so the user has a seamless experience irrespective of where they are.

@Dogmann
Well, not really correct,
None of the business apps in business smartphones are REALLY mature, they still have limits, so don't say that,
it HAS to develop in this regard,
it HAS to support more standards and be more powerful, QuickOffice cannot be regarded as sufficient for a heavy usage for instance.
But equally I absolutely agree that the future of Smarties will involve multimedia support and great convergence with multimedia developement and Web 2.0, no doubt.

@doministry
ok got it.
@_LAU_
It is a matter of preferences. I was using WM TS before I move to s60. I wont deny that TS has its advantage in navigation esp in web browsing. But this advantage is somewhat negated by the need to use both hands. Even if you can use the TS one handed, you still need big movement of your thumb which gets tiring after a while.

Or widgets through opera9 *sigh*..
(Anyway, here's a video I found of someone showing off
multitasking on the p1.)
