Well I prefer WM and always have tbh. Actually I do agree with you all about SE support for symbian.

But I think the issues go deeper than people realise. UIQ was unsaveable in it's current form. SE had to spend too much time and money to bring it up to spec and I just don't think they had the will. I can't blame them, they are a business, their responsibility is to update the firmware until it's stable, then it's just tough shit if people want updates after that.

The demand paging issue of N95 was an absolute necessity - without it the phone was a dog. It wasn't just an enhancement of firmware - it was a major fix. So imho you can't count it as a an example of Nokia giving nice but unnecessary extras over the life of the handset.

again, you´re wrong...if SE used hardware that matched Nokia´s offerings, with UIQ 3.3 right now, UIQ would be awesome...i have no doubt about that

but they kept pushing hold hardware (paris and beibei), that wouldn´t stand a chance vs competition

I still don't think it's that simple. Look at HSDPA for example, why has this not been included in UIQ yet? They have put hsdpa in A200 phones without a worry but not UIQ. This to me says a problem with UIQ that required a lot of development to fix.

If it was as simple as just updating the hardware they would have done so. Why wouldn't they? Because they like giving their high end users something to gripe about?

Another example, X1. Why move to WM out of the blue if they weren't having problems with their own smartphone platform.

It's not just a hardware issue, it goes deeper than that.

Let's just hope that whatever decisions Dick make will be better than the last CEO's.

I don't want to search this whole tread to see if my answer is there but...

Does this mean that the G900 price will drop a lot?

Not more so thany any other phone in the market. It's still fully operational as a phone, it's just that there may be no more phones with UIQ after the G900.

UIQ 3.3 supports hsdpa. Beibei and paris HAD hsdpa...Seriously man, you are talking as someone that does not understand uiq at all and why it failed

Its a pity that many nice models never see the daylight in a shop. Cancelled phones with some potential:

- M610i
- G702/BeiBei
- Paris

I wonder what is the pipeline now, if anything it probably won't be bases on UIQ any more, maybe WM and Android on SE phones, what a pity!

Look here: http://www.uiq.com/product/showroom/

The have some sweetness left in the candy shop and SE won't be giving it to us anymore

? Those phone never actually made it to market. Do YOU know why?

The fact remains, SF is in the works, SE have sold out or are selling out their interest in Symbian to Nokia and the Symbian Foundation, meaning that they have good reason to stop development of UIQ.

I'm not saying HSDPA is the main reason they stopped UIQ development, all I'm saying is that UIQ3.3 is not sufficiently stable for SE to consider releasing new UIQ phones (and they can't use current UIQ because one of the glaring faults is lack of HSDPA support).

It's not hardware. SE can build any hardware they need. It's the inability to get UIQ3.3 ready before they massively haemorrhage high end marketshare - so X1 is a stop gap. Perhaps they will go with more WM devices, perhaps SF will be ready in time to replace WM for SE high end (I doubt SF will be ready by end of next year at the soonest)
