> END OF AN ERA: Microsoft buys Nokia
Bookmark topic
^ its all a matter of time.. let's just hope Microsoft plans on utilizing all the assets they got with the sale. If they are too worried about HTC and Samsung leaving because Microsoft themselves can built a better phone... that's not good.
Hopefully we can get a new camera flagship along with the next version of WP early next year.

Nokia brand to be replaced with Microsoft Lumia
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia[....]microsoft_lumia-news-10000.php
As Michael Stipe of R.E.M once sang "It's the end of the world as we know it"
Goodbye Nokia, you will be missed.

Farewell,NOKIA!
I really think MS could have just used the NOKIA naming..anyway at least they are retaining LUMIA for an identity.

I just hope that MS keep the relevant staff who are responsible for bringing us such iconic Nokia handsets. To think that Pureview technology could be lost as well as the build quality you get with a Nokia phone.
When Google bought Motorola, nobody seemed to care what effect they'd have on Motorola, but im concerned MS will change the devices division of Nokia completely, leaving us with just another phone manufacturer with no USPs or reputation to carry forward.

Microsoft would've loved to be able to milk the Nokia name for longer but I think Nokia asked too much money for it at the negotiating table and MS decided not to go for it.
I think they wanted the name and the mapping service for around 8 billion but instead they "only" got devices/services and tons of patents and designs.. all in all it wasn't a bad deal, the question is what are they going to do with it all..
Its a low margin business.. its not easy.. just ask Sony.

Little to no surprise Microsoft have now made it official that future Lumia devices will branded "Microsoft ". However low end phones like the Nokia 100 range will continue with the Nokia brand.

Sad news, imo. But the "nokia" name will remain for feature phones for a further 9 years.... that is if MS wanted it to.
Nokia is dead, long live Microsoft Lumia

Buying a Microsoft phone just doesn't sound cool. Microsoft is such an 80's name.
I'd keep Nokia as the name.

This is going to be very interesting I must say. For competition sake I hope it works out, Android and iOS simply cannot keep this duopoly they have over the globe, we need at least two more major players in the OS race, so I hope WP and Firefox OS see major growth, and hey, if Samsung can get Tizen going and BB can get BB OS back on the map, then even better.
Wish Nokia had continued with Maemo/MeeGo and Palm had stayed alive with WebOS, the latter being an OS I was rooting for (excuse the pun) over Android back in 2009-2010 and believed so much in.
