oh ok. they probably got the news about the delayed release too.

they removed it from their site because the sony site was closed for pre-orders due to sold out

it seems to still be available for pre-order when I look at the sony site. I didn't and couldn't go through the whole process though because I don't have a MY SONY account and can't make one without a Japanese address.

anyway whatever. did your phone ship?

My hope is that they will have plenty of 16gb models by mid-august (ahead of schedule) to purchase at the physical store.

On the sony japan website they write that the 16/512 are all scheduled to be shipped at the end of August 2025 at this time. Delivery times will change depending on the situation. For this reason the website that acts as an intermediary for the purchase indicates that the product is out of stock and cannot proceed. Mine arrives tomorrow morning.

right. that is what i initially said.

anyway - arriving tomorrow!?! man that's exciting. look forward to your review!

what are you upgrading from?

for me, it will be a huge upgrade from the 1ii (other than 4k stuff). i think the screen brightness in sunlight will be huge for me cause I'm always having trouble seeing wtf is going on outdoors, especially when taking photos.

I'm coming from a sony xperia 1 IV. I'm very sorry about the new form factor and the loss of 4k ((

Yea, I'm also sad about the new form factor and loss of 4K. I really enjoy watching movies on my phone when winding down at night or on trips and having the movie fill the entire screen is such a great experience with the stereo front speakers.

I would have been happier if they kept the aspect ratio but i'm sure it comes down to a matter of manufacturing the panel and what dimensions are available. sony just doesn't sell enough phones to custom manufacturer a panel.

coming from the IV will probably be a nice upgrade too. my biggest priority is getting updated security since I rely on my phone for a lot of day to day things.

having a better camera is also great. i'm glad i didn't have to buy a pixel phone... while i'd be saving money, the sony experience is something I enjoy and prefer.

do you know if there is a way to transfer every single data from the internal memory to the new phone via cable? Or is it better to always do it with the google account? Sometimes with the google account I don't find some folders.

Anything I can sync through google, I do that (email, calendar, contacts).

Google also lets you do backups to google one cloud, which is supposed to backup data and text messages and sometimes, even phone settings, but I haven't tried it in a long time, so not sure how the specifics go.

In the past, for data files, I either transfer everything to SD card or a cloud account or use a backup/sync app to send everything to my local network storage using a backup app. The latter is the easiest and quickest, in my opinion, because I simply need to select what folders I want backed up and it will do it for me in the background. I use an app called SMBSync2. I actually run it every night to backup photos and files in specific folders.

Text messages are a bit more annoying to do, but luckily i don't text with many people so it's not a huge issue for me. There are SMS backup apps in addition to the built in google backup i mentioned above.
