I´ve just upgraded my phone to R3C002 here in Stockholm, Sweden. Due to high load on the SE service center it took me three days (!) to get my phone back. And yes, it´s free if you have warranty.

Anyone here that succesfully upgraded to R3C in The Netherlands ?
I tried at Service center in Assen but all they got me is R1L013.
When I call SE Holland they tell me R1L is the latest version and have never heard of R3C.
Please give this confused novice SE user some insight

Anyone know if a carphone warehouse shop will upgrade my firmware if I bought it from their website? I just bought it a couple of weeks ago and it's only on R1A.

And are Carphone Warehouse one of these people who try to charge for the upgrade, are they happy to do it for free, or do I need to come up with a bug to justify the upgrade?

When I had my t68i SE told me to take it to a service centre (not CW) and they gave me an ancient version so I don't want to go back there. They also took 2 weeks cos the flash fried it, so they had to send it back to SE.

I remember someone mentioning that carphone warehouse was not an authorized service center. Don't know if it's true though, you should check...

I read that too, but if they'll do the job should I care? Surely if they break it they'll have to fix it?

Getting a repair or replacement out of CPW? Easier said than done I suspect!

I know for a fact that the CPW in Bristol is not a genuine SE Service Centre, even though they do upgrades, so I assume that no other ones are either. I don't have a problem with this, except that as far as I know they have never made an attempt to inform people about it when you go to them for an upgrade. Therefore by getting your phone fiddled with by them you are, strictly speaking, invalidaing your warrenty. Some people may not care about this, and that is fine, but surely we should be given the warning?

So if CPW do botch the upgrade (or maybe if the phone just breaks within the rest of your 12 month period) SE may well not repair the phone under warrenty and they will be able to charge you to do it.

If you don't mind the possibility of invalidating your warrenty and go to CPW anyway, just make sure you get them to confirm that they will cover any costs that may arise from them damaging the phone.

Press the following combination from begining to end no matter what happens. (From the desktop (wallpaper displayed), NOT the menu)

Press: [joystick right] [star] [joystick left] [joystick left] [star] [joystick left] [star]
