LON for London, DXB for Dubai, NYC for New York and so on are the three letter abreviations for cities used by the airlines to book tickets for passengers. But all the cities in Canada have an abbreviation starting with a Y because when the abbreviations were being created for the reservation systems, Canada was totally forgotten about.
