if anyone's interested, i can cut some more glyphs from Nina to cut it down to alphanumeric and punctuation, but for now i've left in western accented chars - i've removed most of the greek chars, symbols etc.
I've noticed the p900>p800 option has a good effect on memory in sman - first time i've broken 6000kb!
Anyone know how to get me to 8000kb?!

EDIT - just tried it, not much can be cut down, prob minimum size is about 50k. so i'll leave it as it is for now

i just installed nina font, it's very nice except it does not display chinese characters anymore, so i had revert back the the dafault font. i guess it does not support it, right?

I use "Comis Sans MS" size 11 (the screenshots for the last few weeks use these) and to view chinese, I use a font called STKaiTi.ttf which is a fontfile called "Kai Ti" that has both simplified and traditional chinese in one font (not forgetting a beaten up courier for roman letters in the same font file).
I don't think I need to put a screenshot here... unless somebody doesn't know why I don't bother...
Ohh... to install TTF fonts... RTFM...
@ajack,
would you send me a screen shot and the STKaiTi.ttf to
sfaguy@yahoo.com
i just tried the nina.tff but since it does not display chinese characters, i am unable to use it.
please send me the files...thx

Ok, since I feel like a nice guy today...
In SMan, use the file find option to locate the TTF file you beamed into your phone.
@ajack,
i did use the find feature in Sman to search for the nina.ttf but the search did not come up. plus i did install it onto D:\system\font directory. i was just wondering why i did not see C:\system\font, and i didn't know i had to create it. i thought having installed Freetype, the C:\system\font directory gets created automatically.

sfaguy: re Chinese font - yep, sorry, that's what i had to remove to cut the font down - it's now down to mostly western characters, including accented west-european. To support unicode (ie chinese etc) requries the full sized font, which means it will always be big - unless you ONLY want chinese, in which case you can remove all western characters, cutting it down considerably if you prefer. You have to think what you'll need, and are prepared to sacrifice for memory.
ajack: i love you man - did you write sman? if so, i've got some suggestions, most notably, PLEASE allow a simplified filemanager in flip closed mode. When hacking popontop keyboard files, it can crash the phone into an infinite loop preventing it from starting up except in flip closed mode. opening flip causes the crash (due to it trying to load a corrupt keyboard file). This can only be fixed using pc file manager - however, a flip closed file manager, although of limited use to most people, i guess, would be really useful. Source code for 1.3 might let me start hacking away at it myself once released.
Anyone and all else:
To edit your own fonts, just download Font Creator Program from
http://www.high-logic.com/fcp.html
Other font editors would probably be ok, although this one works very well. It's a trial version, but should work for long enough for most purposes.
Open your font, select unneeded glyphs (eg greek characters), and just press delete. Give it a new name to prevent conflicts, and save and smile!
Hope to see many more edited fonts!
I've got an idea, a dream, if you will, which I'd love to get you all in on.
I come from a pocketpc/MS smartphone background, and there's a webbrowser, Thunderhawk,
http://www.bitstream.com/wireless/ that uses a special font to improve browsing on small screens.
I can't "get hold" of the font anywhere, so I'm proposing to screen shot the font and try and re-create it as a generic ttf that will improve our sex lives and everything else on on the pX00.
It looks kinda naff on the screenshot above, but works very well, and is highly readable. A nice font that renders well at small sizes is really what we need.
Any thoughts?

do you still happen to have the original file before you cut it down to western characters? this is a very nice font and i would love to see how the chinese characters look like regarding of memory issue. please send it to me if you don't mind

if its a normal ttf font, the trial version of thunderhawk will install it on your ppc. There you could find it. If you have a ppc you might try.

you installed into D.... you did not see in C
You still seem confused
ajack has always been very clear...
read and work carefully... if it works for so many people, you may just be a little careless

@a_p_a_n_d_e_y,
let me re-state what i asked before. i beamed the nina.ttf over and it was in the beam folder. and because when you open/save the file in the beam folder, you do not have a whole of choices as to which folder to save it to.
so i use Sman to locate this file in the hoping i can then do a move, yet the nina.ttf in the beam folder did not come up. is there a folder called beam anywhere?
then, i was debating to put it in C:systemfont or D:systemfont, but i do not see the C:systemfont. given the phone comes with two default fonts, i would think the C:\system\font would exist already and not having to create it.

If you go to messages>beamed and select the ttf file you beamed over, you should get the option to open it, then the option to save it. It will save in c or d/media files/documents or /other.
