sorry for being AWOL for the last few weeks, i was in china for a while and busy after I got back.

there is a respite of sorts for the V802SE DRM bullsh!t... its not perfect but it sort of works... (thanks to the tireless Japanese phone freaks, a quasi-solution has been found) -

Nokia's developer's site (http://forum.nokia.com) has a program called the 'Nokia Multimedia Converter' that you can get (similar to the SE one, you need to register to be able to DL it for free). It converts audio files to .AMR files (that the V802SE can play w/o needing to unlock via DRM), and also convert video files to .3gp format (also that play no problem).

The good thing is - audio files in .amr format can be used as ringtones!

The PROBLEMS are:
1) amr files are kind of low quality (max bitrate = 23 kbps).
2) amr files are NOT RECOGNIZED by 802SE's media player, meaning to listen to a song, you gotta leave the phone open and can't pause it or fast forward or anything.

The way around this last problem (sort of) is this - .3gp files ARE recognized by the 802SE's media player... meaning you can at least convert music videos into .3gp format videos and listen to them on your headphones with the phone closed. (unfortunately only at the same low bitrate though).

its not perfect, but if you convert a video to the minimum video quality (20kbps video) and maximum audio quality (23kbps), the files are about 1-2mb each, so even on the standard 32mb duo pro card, you can fit a good 15-20 songs...

I'm getting a friend to pick up a 512mb card for me right now, which should be enough for all the music videos i have at descent video quality....

(its not perfect, but its better than paying vodafone through the nose...)

im just wondering if all these 3 units will work in japan and the other with 1900 will work in US....

Really? I thought these phone worked on W-CDMA in Japan.

If Japan had a gsm network running, the tri and quad bands would work. My K700i does not work there.
