@scorp,
I remember this because I had one of the very first models. I had something like serial number 23 or 32. Something like that. I have a friend that in charge of Product development at Nokia for the Smartphone division. The next phone I had was the 8110 and then the 8110i that was designed for the Artimus SmartGate. Old stuff when you think about what we have today.

I don't think SE needs to spend useless money on creating and developing new low end phones. What i want them to do is, meet the demands and the expectations of the common man and reap the benefits. If SE manages to replace the image of Nokia as a quality, easy to use phones maker, it would naturally help SE to capture more market share. Afterall, word of mouth is the most effective advertising.

Just played a bit with my /// oldies and i think it would be great if se would see older ppl as target. Some low end fones, big keypad and screen with big fonts. Standard features and a simple menu system to offer an easy and comfortable usage. Every brand focus mainly on the young generation, however older ones would welcome such an idea as i see.

I agree, there's a market for older people that want phones with bigger fonts and bigger keypads. They can't handle the usual flow of phones currently out.

And power batts for long usage. Btw se could make special fones for emergency, firework etc water, drop etc resistant fones aswell. All these are perfect consumers.

And in doing this, se don't need to shift their focus from their main category, i.e, high end phones.

well all i can say is , if SE wants to have a good share in the market they should focus on what the enduser really wants for their phone to have, one thing i notice, some of their phone model like t68i , z600 & t610 its message alert tone sucks ! you cant hardly hear it when a someone send you an SMS, Nokia sells lot of unit here coz their SMS alert tone is loud enough to be heard, you can even personalized it, not like SE phones you can only do that on the PXXX series, and for a country whose is the SMS (Texting) capital of the world, a SMS alert tone that is loud enough to be heard even you're a meter away from your phone is a must, but when it comes for other features all thumbs up for SE phone. Second is the price, okey SE phones got the best features compared to other, but still when your sporting for a new phone wouldnt you consider the price, i beleive SE phones are over priced. Third is the availability of phone parts or technician , here in our place nokia phone part & technician are everywhere compared to
SE where it is less than your finger

Unfortunately, SE's strategy is very different from Ericsson's.
Ericsson had those ideas in mind Bobafett. The R250Pro was for professionals. The consumer version, the R310s was a product of the R250Pro.
You guys have to understand the companies behind the product in order to understand why they do the things they do.
Ericsson believed in building great products, at smaller profit margins (which is why they almost went belly-up with their mobile division) Their R&D team was above everyone else... and they consistently had new developments in mobile technology..almost every year. Almost everything they did was a breakthrough in telecommunications.
But these things cost money... and if you don't increase profit... you go broke.
Sony on the other hand can't invent anything..they never have. Everything Sony has done is always derivative of existing technology. They know how to combine technology that's already out there... or improve on it. That's their speciality. This is a better business position to be in since they have no need for an extensive R&D team. This, however, placed them way behind Nokia & Ericsson in terms of the "WOW" factor...way back then.
When the merger happened, Sony was taking a more active role..and a larger financial role as well...as opposed to Ericsson. They may have invested equal amounts, but from the very start...it was clear that they agreed Sony would more or less run the show. Banking on Ericsson's technology and name... and Sony's manufacturing, and marketing.
I personally think Ericsson should've handled the design aspect... but I think both companies felt that they needed a totally new look...hence our current line-up of SE phones. Well, I like my P910i.. could've been sleeker... but that's just a matter of opinion.
SE will stay away from specialized products simply because they don't make good business sense. To develop specialized products takes a lot of time and money... for such a small ROI. And since SE is trying to catch up with Nokia... doing this isn't exactly gonna make sense to them.
Right now, SE is still following Ericsson's footsteps and targetting mid-range & business markets vs. Nokia's mass/low-end market strategy. The numbers speak for themselves and show how big a market the business/mid-range sector really is. This is why SE is only #5 or 6 on the ranks. They are targetting a much smaller segment than Nokia is.
And honestly, I feel this is the reason most of us are SE fans... they cater to the needs of a niche market... whether it be the business users here, or the tech-geeks/early adopters, or just people who don't want to have what everyone else has... I think SE is doing all right.
But in terms of developing low-end phones... nah... they just need to redesign the casings... they look really boring. The T230, T300, and T310 range look so ...dull. They need to spice up the looks of this line.
