I cant believe SE are only interested in low end devices. They said it in the press conference. They want cheap phones to increase marketshare in Asia. They dont seem interested in smartphones for the European market, and claim that people are opting for cheaper solutions now :S

Off topic, but the Z780 is QuadBand GSM/Triband HSDPA, it will work anywhere. You might need to import it, but it will work.

On Topic, okay, so this year we didn't get confirmation of a May product announcement like last year at the Q1 Results conference. Hopefully by May 1 we get some more solid information about it. Paris, BeiBei, etc?

$$$!

i hate it but its true, it should be a little more balanced. focus on the highend and push out 1/2 models and then trickle down theory do some market research find out what features ppl who purchased the high end phones use most and segment the market accordingly dont build mediocre phones and then decide that ppl want AMPED UP MEDIOCRE FEATURES ... bring something new and fresh, too worried about the competition.

what do they say in a footrace, "never look back, it slows you down." SE was too busy looking away when they lost their direction. now they think buy building the lowend it will generate revenue while the rest of their offereings become old and irrelevant.

Apple
Samsung
LG
Nokia

all have the resources of a much more conglomeritized corporation backing it. so then temm me why SONY would even want its name on a company that isnt trying hard enough? seems to be the motivation is in the wrong place for SE, if you focus on the bottom line thats where you end up.

Its not that theyre not trying, IMO. Its that they care far more about buzzwords like 'marketshare', 'geographic regions', and most of all 'product portfolio' than they do about what we actually want at the end of the day. They just say this place is big, and its people want low end, and so they churn out low end. They say High end is small, P1/W960 is good enough for you and thats it. In the webcast, they said they dont work out the data such as net high end/ net low end units sold, gains/losses etc for different sections of their oh so precious portfolio (how the f*** could they possibly know what we want, then :S). It seems they just make a selection of hit and miss products: low end + GPS, low end + camera, low end + walkman, and then see which one people buy. It looks so shaky to me.

I see manufacturers like Nokia and Samsung giving their fanbase high end stuff by the bucketload, because thats what many people want (I can only speak about Europe/UK though, to be fair). Still, such manufacturers have their low ends too, but we see the fruits of their R&D with appreciable frequency.

To be honest, SE has all but a true high end performer in their portfolio. X1 fails for many people because of the WM, but also because the camera just is NOT up to spec. Its not just the 3.2 mpx. Where's the flash? (LED photo light, how high end, 3 yr old technology) Where are the things that make it a joy to use- FINGER touch UI (not just a bunch of panels, please, its barely more than a menu), autorotate- X1 isnt that bad in this respect, but its let down by the very poor WM UI, which is a shame.

Many users want great performance across the entire spectrum- a web browser which leaves out nothing- a great UI for user experience- multimedia focus and compatibility- walkman standard player- cybershot standard camera- good gaming experience - compatibility with many 3rd party apps. Why leave so much out each time?

maybe.. just maybe... SE is just leading us all down the wrong path only to surprise and shock us in the end with a super device that they've kept top top secret?
