I'm soon to be getting Mobile internet via my Mobile operator, T-mobile USA. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to Wi-Fi tether to provide internet for my ipod touch? I haven't rooted my phone yet, is there a non-rooted version. Barnacle WiFi Tether requires Root.

If I root my phone, will there be a way to return it to normal, 2.1, if I don't like it or something is wrong?

I remember from Ricky_D, Hobbs and others telling me about rooting my phone, but I still haven't. Would someone upload the links to how to root ur xperia x10?
I would only do it if there is a way to reverse the process, back to 2.1, if I so failed the first time.

Z4 Root is currently the easiest way to root your X10 on 2.1

Unfortunately, non-rooted tethering is only available on 2.2 or if you're surfing using your laptop (there's EasyTether but it requires you install a program on Windows or Mac to run.

Once rooted, using Barnacle is relatively easy. I've found, however that a certain level of inactivity causes it to hang, and you have to keep re associating the phone to activate the tether again. I did find a workaround by enabling WEP. Ideally I'd rather not enable security since I don't leave my phone on tether long enough nor do I stay in one spot long enough for it to be an issue.

So far, I've had a total of 3 devices connected to Barnacle at once... my iPad, iPod Touch for FaceTime, and my laptop.

I take it by WM you dont mean the new Windows Phone 7 OS ? , at present this is my favourite OS to use. Rather like the first iphones it is missing some core functionality at present - copy/paste, bluetooth file transfer and multitasking but it is so slick and user friendly. The hardware on my Omnia 7 is superb.....the most responsive screen ive ever used and so well built. I traded an Omnia 7 for a friend a couple of weeks back and after using that for a while i got one as my upgrade. I also own an HTC Desire and a Nokia N8 neither of which seem as fluid as WP7

Regards

thanks to everyone for helping me root my phone, especially Ricky_D. Now that it's rooted, how do I uninstall the unwanted apps? i.e. Moxier mail, sync, etc. and quadrapop

Does Barnacle Wifi Tether, when *START*, disable the Wi-Fi on the phone itself? it does that to mine. Does wi-fi tether only works with the mobile internet? I guess so. but that's fine, I'm just confirming...
when I do get mobile internet service via my operator, it will come very handy.
