And faster too.
GloDirect came to my rescue during Celtel's downtime. I observed that even with operamini glo was terribly slow for browsing.

@brym!: MTN GPRS was unusable at several locations and very crawly in those areas where it was usable. I've been a GPRS advocate for years, but these guys just leave a bad taste in the mouth.
Still considering that Reltel offer? Will take it if I find a buyer for my 4-month old E61i. Price: N35,000.

No update on 3G sightings? The race is on!!! Who ever comes in first (and gives the "usual" free access for the first few weeks/months will take the whole 3G market.

Says who?
Remember Glo came from 2yrs behind to be Network No. 2.
That reminds me; what is happening to Transcorp's 0804 network? Any news anyone?

@brym!: Transtel was a still-born child. Expecting a miracle there.
@Abubakar: Glo gave us free GPRS browsing first, and I'm not sure they have the GPRS market. We'll wait and see sha. In the meantime, I've run into other spots in Lagos with 3G networks ready.
One interesting point, though, is that NONE of the GSM networks has Lagos covered with 3G yet. As a matter of fact, I doubt if any of them can launch this year - unless they launch with holes in their coverage, and then patch things up later.

@aya: quote me later!!! NO 3G SERVICE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN ANY MAJOR TOWN WITH COMPLETE COVERAGE ANYTIME SOON.
With regards to GPRS, the only reason celtel caught up is bcos of thier continuing stints of free gprs.i went to thier office to get it and was told i needed to be on postpaid. I ddont have 5k to commit to just on phone monthly just yet. mtn with its long but belated awoof stint is still in 3rd place.

Mtel SIM cards are now on sale in Abuja for N300. They also have a bonus promo when you load their recharge cards. The networks is now down from 1.2m to 50,000 subscribers....so naturally Network quality is AAAAA+
