English isn't everyone's first language of course, and that may be the case here. Misunderstandings are easy when one is writing in a language that isn't native to one.

I appreciate that, and am not intending to sound xenophobic. Actually, just thought it was quite funny.
However, I do think we have a tendency to be overly politically-correct sometimes. If I posted on a French-speaking forum, for example, I would fully expect to have the mickey chronically extracted from me for the poverty of my ability to speak the lingo.
Esato is, of course, a richer place for the contribution of the non-native English speakers, lest I should start to sound like a bit of a Hitler!

It never ceases to surprise me just how GOOD most people have English as a second/third language.

it is the sad reality that most people are obliged to learn english under their native schooling program because the worlds economy is appears to depend on english language. Trading with the USA or Britain, fairly large countries in terms of trade, is impossible if one doesn't speak the native language (english), while most english or americans will go to any other country in the worls on business and not bother to learn the native language.
In today, in a world full of growing hostility, american special agents still are not required to learn the language of their most feared enemies
It's your loss though, really.
One day the reign of the english language will end and those who cannot learn other languages will be isolated.
Perhaps not in our lifetime though, but future generations will find an increasing need to learn other languages to be able to compete/trade/fight wars on this planet.

When I was at school (in Scotland) one needed a foreign language to get in to the better universities. In four years of studying French, no one ever suggested that it might be a good thing to study a second language for its own sake.
