Hi rahul,
Here is my brief explanation
. 3G is a common terminology that includes all the latest broadband air-interface technologies currently available such as EDGE, UMTS, W-CDMA, HSCSD etc . Theoretically , an EDGE network is capable of 48kbps per GSM timeslot and the present day mobiles contain 8-10 such timeslots. so lets calculate
48 X 10 = 480kbps maximum
But most EDGE networks offer a standard speed of 384 kbps
UMTS networks are more advanced and operate at a different frequency and is capable of upto 2 Mbps.
Practically , it is easier for an existing GSM network to migrate to EDGE because it requires minimum hardware upgrade and it uses the same frequency of GSM technology. Well they do probably need more base stations though. HSCSD is almost obsolete these days and W-CDMA is another evolving technology...

Now we can access FTP sites using "Your Freedom" and Firefox. It doesn't work with IE.
