@Vlamm

I agree that people should not be forced to learn English, or be obliged to speak a language that is not native to them in order to prosper in the world at large. However, I can't see that it is either the fault or the loss of those of us who do speak English natively that this is the case.

Why do you think that English will cease to be the "international language"? I doubt war will influence it greatly, as the next conflict to have that sort of effect would surely be nuclear, thereby wiping out a good portion of the world anyway, sadly.

because I can see a future in which countries of non-english language will take the economic lead.

And we will all go to where the money is, just like we do now

Arabic and Chinese will soon be predominant world languages. And within a generation there will be more people in the USA with Spanish as a first language than English. This message was posted from a T68i

Well Fars,Latinese had been used before as an usual language...During the 1200 to 1850 s the Ottoman-Latin-Fars-Turkish language s a main language in the middle of the world.And surely in these years in the middle of the world s meaning whole world.Now English s the global language...But every empire will be end and a new one begin...the history shows it us...so in the future our next generations may talk a new different global language.

Interesting speculation, absinthe, but you state it as if it were fact. Any basis? Clearly China are increasingly influential and I can see the logic in that, although the level of Chinese spoken outside China still seems fairly low. However, I can't see why or how you feel Arabic will become so important, especially given Vlamm's quite correct reasoning that it is essentially all about money and trade and the over-used fact that the combined non-oil generated GDP of all the Arab countries is less than that of Norway!

however the world wide spread of arabic users is considerable.

Given that and given that they will teach their children arabic (even if those children are bi-cultural), much like the spanish speaking population in USA for example, the language will spread. Considerably.

With the spread of Islam comes the spread of Arabic. al-Jazeera and al-Arabia are beamed world-wide as everywhere there are Arabic speakers. It's about culture, not just money (hence the exponential rise of Spanish in the US). This message was posted from a T68i

Hmmm....maybe. Time will tell, as always. Though if Al-Jazeera is an indication of the cultural growth we can anticipate, God help us all, or at least those of us who aren't Islamic!

Why? You have any evidence of editorial bias on al-Jazeera? Maybe you're confusing it with Fox News? This message was posted from a T68i
