So are you guys at least getting 3G reception?
No way! I haven't, and no-one I know has. Nigerian GSM operators are reknowned for false advertising. We've seen more than enough of such over the years.

@Aya: There is 3G reception in some locations but I guess thats all there is to it. I was in Lagos for the holidays, and around my mechanic's workshop there was 3G on Glo, so I tried browsing and each time the phone connected to packet data through gprs. Isn't UMTS supposed to be the default data bearer and gprs the fall back in case of 3G failure?
Happy New year all

Yes; it is - if the 3G network is active (and of course your phone is set to dual-mode, so it handles the switch automatically).

@coola:lol! Its the Bob Mugabe award.
@aya: it still doesnt make sense. I would expect once they started crying wolf it would keep resonating. But just a few crys (simultaneously by glo and mtn) then silence. Mtel should have coo coo joined and said 4.5G! But as the signal is out, the equipement and software should be up and running. If they cant handle the traffic of launching in a few major towns they should at least offer the services in an obscure side of one major town. Thats how MTN originally spread around naija, setting up one mast in a town then heralding "MTN NOW IN .......". Crooks!

It certainly doesn't.

Seems like the Celtel free browsing has been blocked. I've been unable to browse since Friday. I keep getting the "connection failure, check settings or contact ur operator" error. Who else is getting this.
