Hi, is the Xperia S really missing the ambient light sensor? That would be rather silly.

EDIT: My bad. Spec sheet says it is present, but still, I read that you can't set display brightness to auto. Is it true? (hopefully CM9 will eventually take care of that)

Yeah, I got an email from Clove this morning explaining that the stock had been delayed until 12 March and that it was affecting all UK Xperia S stock not just Clove.

Bit of a disappointment but hopefully it's only another week, it kind of figures as the release date was always slated between the 5 - 12th March - guess Sony have pushed back to get all the stock where it should be.

I wonder how long it will take for Sony to get ICS out to the S, I read this morning that Samsung will be pushing out ICS to the Galaxy SII shortly so Sony really need to get things moving pronto on this front - anyone heard anything?

Your guess is as good as mine, there is no concrete date as to when the Xperia S will get ICS, though April/May looks a safe bet.

I expect an unbiased review doministry!

Seriously thou, I'm interested in your opinion on the size and bulk of the S, I've tried the dummy and although that was fine, I'm still a little nervous going from the very slim and light Arc up to the S.

Well, as well as I am fan, I am able to admit if any cr..p is going on with the device.
X2 almost made me quit

Anyway, I like a bit bulky devices, as for the handling comfort I'd still prefer X10. Arc is not a problem...
I was also surprised by the size of X S to be honest.

I'll see tomorrow. Very soon!

@doministry

If you could let us know what the capacitive buttons are like, as many of the reviews I have read keep picking up on how unresponsive they can be. Also, can you comment if there is a slight rattling of the back cover.

That's not a delay and nothing still reported officially. devices using Nova 9600 where originally targeted for early 2013, ST-Ericsson (not ST; though owned by the same main corporation), stated end of 2012 units will be shipping to vendors: that's manufacturers of smartphones/tablets to imbedd them within their substrate as part of my original post with links.

BTW, your article is dated 10/7/2011.

^Nova A9600 will not be ready by 1Q next year so we will not see a device with this in it. For the Nova A9500, we might see a device with it at the end of the year. I think it is not really because of cost cutting reason why Sony has not released a smartphone with one of those SOCs but because of them availability.

Though one thing is for sure, Sony is going to released a smartphone next year with quad-core Snapdragon S4.

ST-Ericsson press @MWC sad SoC L9600 (A9600 Nova processor + M74xx Thor modem) sampled to vendors in H2 2012. It was showed in roadmap with newest L8540 chip.

But I can agree Sony will use Qualcomm S4 for flagships and NovaThor (maybe L8540) for mid and low range devices.

you do realize the 9600 is on ARM Cortex A15 architecture, vs S4 that is loosely based on it, right? We'll see which is better down the road with various implementations. The Qualcomm Krait seems to be the main focus of this article.
