I have learnt to bear the hiccups of Celtel gprs and pray for a stable connection each time I browse. Sometimes, like today, the connection is marvelous.

@brym: mobile phone radios generally consume more power latching on to a 3G signal. As a rule, if you switch on 3G your battery life drops. Of course, some batteries and phones handle this better than others.
Believe me, you are missing nothing on Celtel. Stick with Glo till further notice.
@amby: I don suffer for Celtel hands with respect to GPRS. I finally gave up. Hopefully, they will sort this out quickly.

Only because you are in Lagos. Celtel gprs is about the best out here. I was able to use it to download itunes, avast4 and PDF995 yesterday. A cumulative of approximately 40mb of data. Not bad eh?
I guess the theory of gprs using excess bandwith is playing out in my favour here. Celtel is the worst voice call network here, but that means its the best for data. One man's meat..........

@amby: What's your GPS location, some of us won't mind relocating to enjoy this freebie.

@olu yom: you seen to have forgotten who amby is. The emperor of econet, viceroy of vmobile and chairman of celtel.
This place is quiet cos nothing is happening. I was thinking with the spread of 3g in some areas gprs spread would increase in others. But instead its gotten worse. The signal is so short lived i barely have time to get my mail, read posts and get to post up.
Jumping out of the tech world, did anyone here buy Japaul shares and have u heard anything about when the certs are coming out?
My son has helped me loose my spare stylus and now im using pens and keys to scratch my touch pad. I saw a P910 stylus going for thousands a few yrs back. Are they still ridiculously expensive? Isnt it a piece of plastic and rubber?

@all:A big hello to the real elites of 9ja.You guys've kept here ticking even though it's dreadfully quiet sometimes.
@brym:In addition to Oluyom's reply, cell phone batteries drain out according to the service quality in an area;the more bars one has on his mobile the lesser the battery drain and vice versa.I noticed on Glo3G that reception toggles between one and two bars. This drains batteries like mad
@all:General observations on glo3g.
1,On 3G only mode:Call quality even with one bar is generally brilliant. No dropped calls(amazingly).Service is near stable;one or two bars indoors, three, outdoors. But the drawback is that your battery is in perilious times!
2,GSM-3G mode:Bedlam! The very anthithesis of quality service;Bars toggle in millisecond basis between one and zero.Calls drop alarmingly. One is almost always not reachable when called.3G signal disappears more times than appears on your screen.Your battery is in a race to get to the finish line!
3,GSM ONLY mode:Peace at last!,although without the speed of 3G.Maximun service at all times(depends on areas though Lagos is,largely, well covered).Absolutely no dropped calls. By implication, battery life's more stable.
THAT IS ALL

@abu: I have no idea how much a stylus costs. But I'll let you know if I do get any info.
Glo 3G came on at my end for a few minutes yesterday, and it was quite fast. Sadly, its off again. And for some crazy reason, GPRS doesn't connect.
