Ok I'm going to put my 4S up for sale on gumtree. It's in mint condition and only 6 months old. But I need to do a few things like note down passwords saved in mSecure. As for contacts whats the best way to port them across if I am moving from iphone 4s to S3? BTW My laptop that had itunes is bust so it needs to be in the form of something I can email or transfer easily.
Edit I found an app 'Contacts kit' that allowed me to export my contacts. I exported them as 3 different types- Excel, CSV and Vcard. Hopefully the s3 will let me import them from 1 of those types?
I have some other questions that I hope some can answer.
1) I am used to storing all my app settings and contacts online via iCloud. What alternative do I have on Android? I don't mind paying a yearly subscription for space.
2) Iphone optimizes images for displaying on the phone ie a large 6MB photo taken with a camera will be rendered down so it opens quickly. Does the S3 have anything similar or am I going to be faced with a lag/sluggish behaviour when I transfer photos taken from my Nikon V1?
Thanks

I was thinking the same. I imagine after the S4 has been announced mid March.

I'm honestly not here to start a war or anything, but why would you not get the Nexus 4 instead? I mean, it has superior hardware (besides the camera) and is future proofed for a long time yet...And is cheaper.
Unless you find the 16gb limit too restrictive.

One reason for me - I cannot stand the Nexus 4 screen. Its so poor imo.
And its limited memory is too limiting for any power user.

Nexus 4's camera is also dreadful.

Yep, the Nexus 4's tiny memory really make it a deal breaker, also, the GS3 on 4.1.2 is more functional with its Multi-view multitasking, better battery, better camera etc... For some reason, Nexus phones just aren't that cutting edge anymore. What I find funny is that quite a few features that the Nexus 4 and other Nexus devices got only now with 4.2.2 we've had in the GS3 and Note2 in 4.1.2.

S3 supports VCard from what I remember when someone sent a number.
1) When you 1st boot up your GS3 and set it up it will ask if you want everything to be backed up to Google servers, this includes app data and wifi passwowords, you can also find this setting later in your GS3 when you go to Settings -Back up and reset.
2) I honestly have not tried that in my GS3 but it should work the same way the iPhone does, I think all phones do that these days.
Hope that helps.
PS. If you're getting a GS3 then get the GS3 LTE

Storage isnt a deal breaker for me and I do like the fact that it's vanilla Android. Think I'm leaning towards the Nexus 4.

The Nexus 4 screen is absolutely amazing! I have friends with the s3 and they say the same...The memory can be a deal-breaker for some, which is understandable. With unlimited internet and DC-HSDPA, streaming can be an option. I was watching the ps4 event yesterday on it using my network, and it was smooth, even though on my laptop it lagged way more.
If you use your phone for a lot of photography, and display it as a large picture and not just profile-pics etc. then the s3 does have an advantage there, but the camera on the Nexus 4 is by no means bad.
And I think the Nexus line's hardware is more cutting edge than ever before, using the most powerful chip of 2012 (viable on a phone), the most RAM etc. (besides LTE).
And when I ordered it, I thought I was getting an ugly phone as a compromise for the price. I was wrong, it looks pretty good too in real life.

The Galaxy S3 LTE has 2GB RAM to as well as LTE and a larger battery, but if you prefer vanilla Android then go with the Nexus 4. Where the Nexus 4 beats the S3 is in its CPU/GPU combo which is much newer and more powerful, but not by a huge margin going by some benchmarks.
I'd say try both the Nexus 4 and GS3 LTE in store and see which appeals to you more. Can't go wrong with the Samsung though even if its not a Nexus, here we are in 2013 and the 2011 GS2 has received an update to JB.
