No compact camera?? Proof please?? What you've just said is not a fact. Have you tested it against EVERY single compact on the market?? I doubt it

All usual compacts are big big crap Good compact camera with large sensors for good quality needs to two things:
1.Great lens quality
2.Shoting in RAW format

Ofcourse all "profi" compacts has better dynamic sensitivity and take better shots in low light. But they are more biggest , heavy , expensive and useless for every day. Compare 808 quality and mirrorless "compact" Panasonic G1

I find no differences , I don't know who is who if don't look in EXIF data

But Leica is Leica

Good examples Sassho !

The vast majority of releases of compact digital cameras of 2012 and 2013 with sensors 1/2.3 "I have tested against 808 PureView... And the victory of top of line Symbian was unquestionably top notch !

The unique compact digital cameras on the market able to overcome the 808 are cybershot Sony RX100 and RX100 II !

But the 808 PureView is still more business than the 2, because it makes and receives calls, has the best solution gps market and even surf the Internet.

But I repeat... None smartphone of the world comes even to 50% of the 808 PureView photo quality !!!

808 may be a good phone but if Nokia shuts the store in 2014 it will be over and out soon. If all you can do with it is making calls and take some nice shots it misses out on what everyone is doing with their phones now.

Despite of them shutting it down, it will still work perfectly fine with the currently available apps. Some devs will actually offer updates on the side .. especially for things that change their API requirements like youtube, etc.

example: http://www.allaboutsymbian.co[....]Kloud_follows_CuteTube_tra.php

So I think that the 808 is and will continue to be a very capable smartphone throughout 2014.

It'll function just like Symbian phones did prior to the Nokia store going online. You transfer apps onto via cable or Bluetooth or directly downloading from sites.

Where it'll age the phone is the lack of updated apps that we get on modern operating systems.

the apps problem is easy after 2014...

You can do two things:

1) For free apps, just need to head down to the Ovi Store, locate the item in question and add '/download' at the end.

Example:
This link: http://store.ovi.com/content/62616
to download just add: http://store.ovi.com/content/62616/download

2) Using the Nokia PC suite and making a full backup of the phone, including the apps installed.

I mean, not that I need to reset my phone every week (like used to do on a previous android). Just to remark, even though Nokia really tried to make people forget about the 808 & Symbian (after that burning platform memo in Feb. 2011) it seems that the 808 is still kicking anything nokia releases in the arse in terms of the camera.

I am planning to move to a Sony Z1 Mini next year (after the bad taste of Nokia's disrespect towards users) but will keep my 808 as main camera for projects, nights out and hopefully will buy one for my son

Long live Symbian!
