Sony aims to raise $1.5 billion from bond sale to pay off debt and invest in technology
The electronics and entertainment giant aims to raise the capital by selling bonds to Japanese retail investors. The bonds have a five-year maturity rate and are priced to to yield 0.8 percent to 1.4 percent growth over the period.
“It’s good for Sony to have increased diversity in its investor pool,” said Damian Thong, an analyst at Macquarie Securities Ltd. in Tokyo, who has an outperform rating on the company’s stock. The funds may help with development of the PS4 or be invested in Sony’s image sensor business, he said.
Sony is strengthening its financial position by accessing new funding sources, spokeswoman Mami Imada said by phone today. Proceeds from the offering will be used to repay maturing debt and invest in equipment, she said.
The company plans to spend 180 billion yen in capital investment, down 4.6 percent from a year earlier, it said May 9. Sony doesn’t disclose details of its investment plan, Imada said today.
Sony has 10.7 billion yen of bonds and 78 billion yen in loans coming due this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

One third of Sony's sale come from Japan, a county which its consumer spending is shrinking 5 percent per year for the past 20 years and its economy is slightly smaller than how big it was 30 years ago. So One third of their sales will shrink by an average of 5 percent per year. Japan's consumer electronics spending dipped 20 percent on year and its stock market bubble is about to burst. The Greece style sourveign default is also so probable in 2-3 years. It means falling sales and falling stock prices for Sony.

I think if they start right now they'll be able to escape from there in 7-8 years and pursue growth after that.

just hope the IGZO for honami is confirm XR5..triluminos too hopefully...
sony should make a 8 inch tablet with thin bezel like ipad mini with water/drop resistance with more attractive price to compete with nexus 7 and ipad mini...

i think sony will release 4.2 for them....4.3 via update later...big CONS for sony...always behind samsung..
did not give it's flagship latest android firmware...android 4.2 update has been leak for s3...xperia s end up with 4.1 only...
