Guys, if you trail through the 'other manufacturers' forums on esato, you'll see that HTC is actually 'driven' by Microsoft, but they have a certain level of autonomy as regards handset development, using of course Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system.
The R & D, specs, designs and component sourcing and manufacturing are shared/distributed amongst a network of peripheral, related companies. These are i-mate, qtek, etc. Thes companies in turn have specific business agreements with the big networks, and as such you'll find the same handsets sold as eg. T-Mobile's Vario 2, O2 MDA's, Orange SPV's etc.
Do a google or two, or visit
http://www.gsmarena.com , and you'll see how the plot thickens...

I think HTC is the new name for Imate.
Dont think so, I've just checked and they're 2 seperate companies.
But it's weird, the phones are very similar, and all out of my price range.
Damn, it's 12:30, I've done nothing all day and I'm bored out of my mind.

My friend Wikipedia says the following:
The company's growth has accelerated dramatically after being chosen by Microsoft as a hardware platform development partner for the Windows Mobile operating system (based on Windows CE).
HTC products are sold under several brand names, some of which include major telecommunication carriers, such as Orange, T-Mobile, Cingular, O2 and Vodafone.
HTC is the ODM for the following IT companies that retail Windows Mobile based PDAs: Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, HP/Compaq, i-mate, Krome, Sharp Corporation, Dopod (HTC's subsidiary company) and Qtek (HTC's subsidiary company).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Tech_Computer_Corporation
It also mentions Qtek
And even more interestingly:
From the beginning of its existence until Fall of 2006, i-mate sold branded versions of Pocket PCs, PPC phones, and smartphones manufactured by Taiwanese mobile device giant HTC. In September 2006, HTC ended this relationship with i-mate (at the same time it cut ties with O2). This was announced soon after HTC started selling devices under its own brand name in Europe and purchased the PPC/smartphone distributor Dopod which serves Asia and Australia. Since the end of its relationship with HTC, i-mate has begun carrying devices from other manufacturers, including Inventec and TechFaith.
