@ micks2005 - a short, poor quality low resolution video clip taken by the phone.
Pathetic. I expect more from a 3.2mp cameraphone. Once again shame on you SE, you've lost my custom on this feature alone.

@etaab
Dude, all SE fone's will now be specialized fones according Miles Flint, SE's president.
That one feat. will outshine the other. So don't expect in the near future that all cyber-shot fones will have a damn good video rec. as well as it won't.
To clarify
K Series ----> For Images.
W Series ----> For Music.
P Series -----> Smartphones.
M Series -----> Blackberry sol. (Emotional Design Fones)
Z Series -----> Clamshell fones.
H Series -----> For video's (Yet to be released).
So like with the cyber-shot it's for taking pics and stuff as that's what it's specialized for, not for taking video's. Want something for video's wait for the handycam in sep @ 3GSM Congress which will be held at Singapore for the 4th quater releases by all fone manufacturer's.
So if you settle for one thing realize you won't get the other... !!!
Cheers Mate ... !!!

The picts look a bit out of focus but still very good for a phone. The video is a bit shameful... one would expect better quality from a 3.2mpx phone... there are vga cam phones that can record video with the same quality. Im not very fond of this all ´specialized´ stuff. i prefered when phones had as much functions as possible and well done functions of course. I just wish i had more money to get a n73

or perhaps se might release a walkman phone in the future with 3.2mpx cam and symbian...

That
should be the W950i's successor.... But because it is "specialized" for music, it'll probably only be a 2MP..

if it only has 2mp cam but records qvga or vga video it will be much better than k800

@micks2005 - I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you right there. Sony's making peope choose which feature they like the Most and sacrifice all others. This is a poor decistion ESPECIALLY when it comes to Pictures and Video, since they more or less go hand in hand. SE didn't have to release a 640x480 video on this phone - all they ahd to do is release CIF quality and MOST everybody would have been happy. As you said, SE's releasing an H line of phones which will be Video (HandyCam?), I'm SURE they won't be limited to such low quality as CIF, if they are, SE has lost that front all together! They BETTER be at LEAST 640x480, and if so, giving the K series (CyberShot) CIF quality would have NOT competed with the H series. Needless to say, there is NO H series as of YET, and Nokia has multiple phones capable of At least CIF quality.
SE - you've screwed up here. And if you continue making people choose between features (by offering ONLY the lowest subset), you WILL loose customers.
Just to recap - ALL SE had to do is give the K-series phones CIF quality video capture.
@SloopJohnB - The pics are not necessaraly out of focus, I think it's mostly that the Fixed F-stop (aperature) on this camera is set to 1:2.8, which makes for very shallow Depth of Field on arial shots, which results in soft focus in majority of the shot, except for the one item/subject which is actually in focus. This would be the case with ANY fixed aperature camera out there (especially if it's set to F/2.

But isn't the K800 AUTOfocus, not FIXED focus?

It is Auto Focus, however it is Fixed F-stop, also known as Aperature. The aperature in a camera determines the amount of light that gets to the sensor, and the depth of field of the shot. Depth of Field means (simplified) how much of the picture is in focus. If you are shooting a fairly flat surface, you won't notice anything out of focus, however if you are shooting a picture of multiple objects which are at different distance from you (such as taking a picture of a line of cars down the street) at F2.8 only a portion of the picture will be in full focus. This is a sacrifice that has to be made to allow more light in the sensor. Normal digital cameras have between 3 and 7 F-stops (the higher the number is, the 'deeper' the focus will be, and the less amount of light will get to the sensor).

@ micks2005 - and its a very stupid idea. Sure, market the phones to different types of consumers, give them different looks, slightly exclusive features (like the Walkman media player over the standard K750i media player), but they should not leave brand new phones with old out of date features. Its completely ridiculous.
The Samsung D600 has been out months now, since autumn last year and it has (if i remember correctly) QVGA video recording resolution.
Anything less than QVGA video recording in a brand new summer 2006 3.2mp cameraphone is totally unacceptable IMO.
Sure, SE could save VGA resolutions, stereo sound and 30fps for their "H" series, and give other phones QVGA mono 15fps video which would have kept me happy with the K800i, but paltry QCIF is a complete and utter joke.
SE's choice of forcing people to choose which features they want the most and sacrificing others might sound like a good idea to some people, but i ask those people who do think so
would they expect to pay the same price for the phone as they would another manufacturers that does have all the latest features included in a single handset ? if you think of it that way, i bet they would not unless they have money to burn.
So, can we expect SE releasing handsets which are (i guess) 25% cheaper than their all-in-one rivals ? not a chance, they'll expect the consumer to pay similar prices to other phones but theirs will have much older, lesser, out of date features.
Ive never once been biased towards SE or any other phone manufacturer, so buying a Nokia or Samsung alternative comes as no difficult decision to me.

The official SE website (Australia) now reflects the new front without Cybershot 'sticker.' :
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10407
Interestingly, a lot of the other photos on the site still display the original 'sticker' version.
@etaab: amen!
