I can see that I'm going to have to pay a substantial amount to get the W950.

@amawanqa
Too true, the poor and technologically impared also have to live .

You must tell your brother to rather visit The Pirate Bay next time he needs someting, it's where Davy Jones lives.

I've only got 3D Studio Max 8 and to me it's like 500 times harder to use than Maya, that probably explains the US$3500 price difference.
So no, I haven't really messed around with it, is there a specific reason why you ask?
I was actuall interested in 3D computer animation as well but after seeing what a rip off the south african courses were I decided to just keep it a hobby.

No specific reason for asking, apart from it being one of the 2 programmes that he bought to to try out computer animation.
He has also not bothered with 3D Studio Max that much, possibly for the same reason as you mentioned.
He was contemplating doing that expensive course in CT...still cheaper than what they charge in the UK via Escape Studios...one of the lecturers there worked on the Gorillaz music videos.

Well if I was him, was totally serious about it and I had the money I'd go for the GNOMON courses.
But they're &%#$ing expensive.

Sweet, how you enjoying your new job?
And what's it like in Singapore, how do the people treat you, language barrier etc.

He's from Singapore, boet, born and bred, so my guess would be that the language ain't a barrier at all

@ Kitsune,
The place in CT that he wanted to enrol at is Universal Computer Arts Academy.
Here's their site:

http://uca.co.za

I speak under correction, but if I remember correctly, the 2 year course was around R80 000, and that's just for a certificate, no degree or diploma.

Damn.... that's a bit pricey for a certificate... For R80k i'm certain he could do much better elsewhere, boet.

Yup, hence his change of heart and enrolment to that university in your neck of the woods early next year, studying architecture.

EDIT: One can always take the range-topping VFX Professional course from Escape Studios in London, which I mentioned earlier. Just be prepared to get £1 change from £19000 for your 30 weeks' intensive computer graphics course... :

Heh... @kitsune, don't be too hard on yourself, nobody would have guessed I'm from Singapore, seeing I'm here gatecrashing the South African thread. Work's fine, my legs are tired. That's the way it is in the retail industry. Hmm... Sony has a new line of Vaio notebooks, very nice I'd say. And for the first time, at an affordable price with decent specs, at least over here. Check out this link:

I think it looks much better in reality, feels great as well!
