They lost the plot the moment they switched from Symbian to Android.
They are yet to produce a proper camera phone like the Satio based on android

Imaging hasn't gone well for Sony (SE) since the arrival of the N95. Back in the days of the K750 onwards, all was rosy and imo Nokia were miles behind. SE were by far in a league of their own.
Then came the N95 and SE lost the plot completely. Its like they just handed over the keys to the imaging realm to Nokia. They haven't caught up since.
I'd love to see Sony make a proper cameraphone, but they wont. Their last proper cameraphone was the Satio - and that didn't compare to the N8.
Spot-on!!
It's crazy how the N95 changed the game and the N82 was like the tombstone to confirm it all. The Cameras Nokia had in their phones before the N95 were a joke, I remember the N90, N80 and N70 being owned by the K750, W800 and W900's incredible 2MP Camera unit and even the N73 3.2mp being taken down by the K800's 3.2mp unit.

Exactly! S700i, K750i/W800i, K800i, W900i were the kings of cameraphones in their time, after them, Sony(Ericsson) have lost it completely. Nowadays not only Nokia, but even Apple and Samsung have better cameras.
And most of the Cyber-shot phones had Xenon flash, never seen on any Sony(Ericsson) afterwards.

Brilliant smartphone that was, I liked how its Camera cover was designed, and it's speakers were ridiculously lound, only downside was how its joystick over time became loose and in some cases simply fell out.

My favourite Nokia of all times was the Nokia N82. Indeed, after the N95, Sony Ericsson couldn't catch up.

They've improved the IQ further in 8.1 it seems .. and they've added something we've had on the 808 since 2012.. 100% zoom in the picture gallery

"However, a number of
imaging enhancements built into Windows Phone 8.1 will boost its prowess even further.
When you’ve taken a photo, an enhanced Creative Studio is at hand to help you with any post-edits. A new high-resolution reframing feature means you can zoom into more details and reposition the image until you find the perfect angle.
The exceptional zooming capabilities of the Lumia 1020 mean that you’re able to see things in a photo you didn’t realise were there before you took the shot.
