yeah, I saw that, but only after going to the show and not seeing it in the 2 P990s that were shown to me. Or perhapsI just overlooked it...
anywhichway, assuming its true then thats certainly another plus for the new P series which, yes, I will be getting asap (no matter how much I might have tried to deny it previously

Masseur,
About the FM Radio Alarm Clock, on page 32 of this PDF
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=75265
in the supported Audio Oriented MIME types, you can read:
File Extension: .rad
MIME Types: audio/fmradio
Description: Sony Ericsson Mobile Comunications FM radio alarm file
Even if they don't say, it's easy to see how it will be used.
You tune a FM station, save the location to a .rad file, and then you can use this .rad file as the "sound" that will play in an alarm, like if it was an .wav or a .mp3

It's very preliminary documentation.
It's nice to see that they will fully support Read Media, but unfortuantely they seem to have no plans for Windows Media, DivX, XviD ...
I hope this time they let us have the Codecs SDK so we (developers) can port the Codecs ourselves.

DivX and Xvid I can understand to a certain extent given that they are largely used in copying DVDs etc, but its time WMA (and WMV) were supported in these times of collaberation for the benefit of the consumer. Just look at msn and yahoo messengers agreement this week, for example

masseur, yes, is back into the UIQ fold. Me I'm gonna be a newbie - not total but a S60 convert. _Lau_ your a developer, as in a c++ coder?? Cool.
I'm definately getting this device, even after seeing the specs of the Nokia E series. Just two things I hope SE changes; adding 802.11g/i & Bluetooth v2.0+EDR. I'd like the fastest wireless speeds possible. They gave us 3G UMTS which is faster than EDGE, but they low ball us with 802.11b alone. probably because its everywhere, wereas the g format is still farely new. I'd prefer BT v2.0 for 2 main reasons. 1> faster data transport (uploading files from my upcoming iMac that has BT v2.0+EDR while I'm downloading to the Mac over WLAN) and for the benefit of better than BTv1.1/1.2/1.0 battery conservation EVEN while active. If these two changes are implemented it shouldnt affect the developers for applications.
If not SE please make a Black Special Edition model (All black except for the silver around the screen).

The more I read about specs, the pictures and the views of the people who actually saw and touched the P990.
I am definately the future owner of the P990.

@ masseur
How did the phone feel in your hands? In a few of the pics it seems wider at the top, is this right?
And one more mate, did it seem bulky, or quite comfortable?
Thanks.

WOOO HOOOO NEWSFLASH TO ALL CANADIANS!!!
Rogers Wireless & Ericsson (they've had contracts totalling 5 years - including the changeover from TDMA to GPRS back in 2001, EDGE on the 850Mhz band since July 1st 2004) Have just announced Trialing begins NOW for UMTS/HSDPA!!!
Link:
http://globetechnology.com/se[....]ogersoct13/BNStory/Technology/
"This trial represents a first step in creating a unique opportunity to offer customers complete freedom to use, view and access the information that matters most to them, when they want and wherever they are," said Rogers CEO Ted Rogers in a statement.
I just hope Ted's Marketing department truely shows people using this service for News, Entertainment, Contests with Entertainment, and for Wireless Data Services.
For those that dont know, Rogers Communications owns Rogers Wireless (Nationwide GSM/GPRS/EDGE), Rogers Cable (Cable, Digital Cable+TimeShifting,VoIP, Cable Internet), News Stations (FM/AM CHRY, 680News, etc), and Magazines (mostly womens mags). This means that Rogers Communications will be leveraging their bandwidth from their cable network for interconnection of towers - if possible - and network bandwidth.
"The services are expected to launch commercially in Canada in 2006." I'm guessing its July 1st 2006 = Canada Day (our independence day).
Does anyone know if SE mobile phone division works in harmony with telephony devision of Ericsson? I do hope so; and if so then there is hope that a North American P990i with North American 850/1900Mhz UMTS-HSDPA is in the works.

I like the phone thou....but im wondering if it will have the capability to send and receive faxes! seems that obviously not; SE had banned this chance for an office-oriented phone. I would like to know why?
