I dont think P1i appeals to the masses either as it is unconventional, has quirky keypad, no navi-pad and no select keys.

Which for me is a positive thing... I had the N73 from the start but hated seeing just everyone walking around with it after a few months (same with N95, although less because it's so expensive).

Well, in my country Orange just brought it.
Kinda cheapo compared to net prices (US$508 with one year warranty and activated with prepaid).
But I just had the P990 and was a cool phone but a lot of issues.
Now I got N73 ME and was thinking on giving this to my wife and buy the P1x but after reading, just changed my mind.
Suffers same issues as the P990. Dont know why S.E. don't learn from past mistakes.
Is the P1 highly recommended or wait for the W960?

hmmm...i'll admit that the messaging is slow and the constant refreshes are annoying as heck... but i've also had no issues with email.. i sent off a 3.7 meg file the other day and thought it did alright... but the messaging app is slow... and i would like it to be revamped... some things they've got right... but some things are flawed...

but what i don't understand is why people can't use this device with one hand for most things? I can text with one hand and navigate around the whole screen.. my hands are average in size..the standby icons are good for the fingers imo...it's not as usable as my iphone but slightly better then a windows mobile device imo.. cause you can drag around the screen... if they would use a flushed screen design like the w960 i think it would solve some issues as well...

the keypad seems to be love or hate... i've used them all and find this one quite easy to use.. i remember how much i hated it at first.... and even passing it off to a few bb diehards they liked it as well..but everyone says it would take sometime to get use to.

typing Q&A is quite easy for me.. but is it cause i'm a lefty?

overall the UI hasn't changed and i don't think it will... except for minor things... unless they go with a "touch/iphone approach" but that would be quite a rehaul i think...

I've realized that UIQ3 is honestly no better then any other smartphone UI out there IMO.. so it has no edge in that department... it's mediocre at best.

dpad navigation would be fantastic and would solve a lot of user issues and make the adjustment period a lot easier.. i'm sure most people that went from an old bb to the pearl based ones would agree.

at the end of the day i think se UIQ is still stuck in pda mode.. and quite frankly pda's are extinct imo.

My P1i works flawlessly now. Using it to read mail, use GPS, play musik and video on trips, camera and calendar. I simply love it...

coming from S60 (nokias)
is getting used to it hard, i mean, the learning curve...?
I just had my P990 for about a week and then drowned in water (sigh...)

so never had the time to get used to it.

I agree with you mate... The messaging app could do with some tweaking so its doesnt refresh the way it does now...

I have no problems using one handed, with the hardware button set to invoke Task Manager I can quickly jump from app to app... I think people have to get used to using a combination of keys, jog dial and the touchscreen... I have relatively small hands also... Being able to drag around the screen is a plus as it allows you to make sure you have selected the correct thing before actually pressing...

the keypad is the best thing about it in my eyes, the perfect conversion of form and usability as far as I am concerned...

D-Pad naviagation would be a great help... I'd prefer the 5 way jog dial of old to be honest... But if the next P series has a flip with the Qwerty on as well as a D-pad that would be killer...

@haris_el

You really made me laugh with this

"The sure thing, is that we--> the users of M600, can feel that we have an upgrade of the best phone ever in the market !"

So what about all the users on this Forum filling up pages with the problems they are having, or is that all just there imagination then? Not to mention the commitments above about the messaging app then?

Now i am not saying it is a bad device and for some it may even be the perfect device but it most certainly isn't for all users is it?

Marc

Have you note that everybody here has a P1 as the avatar picture.
That's funny and even funnier because some of this guys are talking really bad about this little wonderful machine.

The p1i is not perfect but it's one great smartphone. I came from Treo, then an e61, then moved on to a p1i. Wifi sucked with the old firmware, but after the firmware upgrade, connection was a breeze already. The QWERTY keyboard could get tricky at the beginning, but maybe about a day or two, you'd be typing away! I had so much to gain from the two phones I migrated from. I guess it all depends on that.

Good luck, sir!
