Nokia is more about functionality than beauty, part of the reason why they sell a lot of phones.

Exactly! You want beauty then opt for the 8000 series (ie Luna) or fork out the cash for the Vertu line. Personally I really love the design of the N82 has just about everything (save for N.A. 3G - Good Marketing for N95 & bad sales decision).

I'm pretty much set for getting one for Xmas; unless something better comes along.

That much RAM is a bit unnecessary, IMO. I mean, most people don't even open more than one app. at a time. Including me.

On S60 with its powerful applications; multitasking is at its core. That said we're not talking about Java apps we're talking full blown applications that fully interface with core apps & system. One of the most in-daunting challenges is the WebKit OSS Browser (the one Apple founded and worked mostly on for Nokia to debut 1.2yrs ago on S60 - Never forget it ppl). This app for all intents & purposes IS A FULL BLOWN browser just like your Safari or Mozilla Firefox is on your PC. The more sites you surf the more RAM it uses on your phone - significantly! This in turn limits how many apps you have open because they TOO still function even if minimized (inbound email, rendering photo apps, Shozu type uploading apps, etc). When not enough memory is left S60 will decide which application to close/crash out. As you can see why SO many ppl on an N95 or N93 or N61/70. I meant 1st gen N95-1 owners; no matter how great the phone is ... browse 5-8 heavy sites (like howardforums, macrumors, cnn, etc with heavy photos or ads) and with the built-in email with say 10 emails 2 with 100kb attachments, Gallery open with 1 full screen opened photo, and a playlist with current playing application - you'll significantly realize limited function and slowness in that model. Certain apps will limit it more, and my example isn't exact but you get the idea. N95-2/3 (8GB or US 3G) doesn't exhibit this issue due to increase RAM after boot.

Hi all

Well really Prom1 and K850 successor have said it all, this latest and greatest selection from Nokia with the addition of 64mb extra Ram and Demand paging added to what is still the most powerful processor found in a Symbian smart phone. Really does make a great user experience and it's also faster now as well, not that IMO it was slow before.

Personally i would always take function over Form as a deciding factor, but then we all don't have the same taste as i actually liked both the form and function of my N93. It may not of been to every one's taste but i really did like it and appreciated it's power.

I mean what good is a beautiful smart phone if it fails to function well it's about as good as chocolate fireguard.

For the first time since i have been using Handy Taskman it is hardly being used except to show me what is running and what resources are still free i really no longer need to shut any app for fear of something not working or getting an out of memory error. Also i can't believe just how much faster it is and really can't see how even a dumb phone can any longer be faster. You press a selection and the app opens immediately no delays or lags as these are now a thing of the past. Look at my N95 8GB review and you will how much free Ram i had with 14 apps running.

Marc

Why does such a feature-laden phone have to be so ugly!

btw, Don't the keys resemble those of the W610i

Good ol' X1387:

N82 on Ebay......

Oo, only £318! Plus shipping/possible VAT, of course, but still nicely under £400, even if you do get stung(which I always seem to, lol)!
