i want to help you answer the question but what exactly the part nearest to the lens cover that you meant btw?
some pictures with some explanation will be nice.

Thanks, here's the pic, sorry this is mah first pic upload so I may have to re-edit this.
I'm referring to the light enclosed in the red box.
The light on my k770 lights up an area approximately as big as the yellow circles.
It does not go up to the area enclosed by the blue circles. Also, aren't those LEDs inside the blue circle?
It lights up only for few seconds after you opened the lens cover.

What I'm wondering about is why the lights on mine seem to only light up half way.
There are two lights right? Each of the lights on mine only light up half way.
I'll try to get a pic of it when it lights up so I can show you.

There are only two lights, one on each side. Open back cover and just see for yourself. I just bought k770i today and im wondering... Are those lights used just to indicate that camera works or there is something else I didnt noticed?

No, you're right - only the sections you've circled in yellow actually light up. Mine does the same.
It appears that there are two more LEDs closer to the sliding lens cover (which you've circled in blue) but I suspect they are not LEDs at all.

Yey!!! I'm not alone. heehee. I now also think they're not LEDs.
Now I just found out how to use my k770 as a remote control for my PC. However, I saw a video where the media player in the PC being controlled appears on the screen of the k770! Mine does not do that. When I use the remote control, the screen on my k770 shows the wallpaper and nothing else and yet i can control the mouse cursor on the PC using the dpad on my phone. And all the remote control options on the k770 (ie, presenter, medi player, desktop) seems to do the same thing which is control the mouse on the pc.
Please help me shed light on this.
Thanks!!!

Mine's the same, and these lights up when you open the back cover.
I think it's just an indicator that the back cover is open.
When you take pictures it will not light anymore.

FYI..
actually...u can make this "two light" on the back lights up not only when u opened the lens cover, but also when there are incoming message to ur phone.
and u also can make the 8 blue shortcut lights on the keypad lights up when there is incoming message or incoming call.
just put T650 light effect ( 4 item : messaging.BLE, reminder.BLE, MT_CALL.BLE and SYSTEM.BLE ) to your K770 using XS++ V.3.1
put that light effect on this path : tpa/preset/system/light effect/system effects
