The way I look at it, there are odd occasions where 3.5mm would be handy, but overall I see no great advantage in having a 3.5mm port. For example, if I'm going to be out and about and I want to listen to music, I need to have my headset with me. And if I'm having to carry a headset everywhere, then what difference if it is a HPM-70 or a normal headset?
Either way I still have a 3.5mm port available.
Okay so if I have a 3.5mm port on the handset and I forget to have the headset with me I can borrow someone else's, but who carries TWO headsets around (so that they can lend me one without depriving themselves of music)?
I mean the actual number of times a 3.5mm plug is any real advantage over a HPM-70 is quite rare.

Guys, while we are on the fastport topic, take look at this solution.
Somebody should start producing this.

The old fastport sucked, the new one is good.

I've got various headsets, cables, four fastport SE's, and all still work perfectly. My almost 3 year old HPM-70 works fine. Ocassionally I have to give it a wriggle to connect properly, then it's fine for weeks.

Yep, 2 x K750, 1 x K800, 1 x W910
Between them I've listened to approx. 1500 hours of music and taken 9,500 photos.

The fastport will loosen/wear because the plastic will wear up over time. If only they could strengthen it with some metal stuff. I like the fastport though.

I've used the same charger I've had since the day SE introduced fastport... I have about 9 chargers still sitting in the boxes as the first one is still going strong. The only reason I've changed handsfrees is because I wanted the earplug/music one- then I wanted remote on the mic
I've worked in a phone store for 6 years, and it's very rare to have a customer complain about the fast port that wasn't their fault for damaging it (apart from it not working with their old Nokia chargers lol), the only fast port handsfree people had problems with were handsfree issues- where the wires were internally stuffed and you had to wriggle it to get sound out of one ear or another...

the have to wriggle to get sound problem is just a common thing with headsets. I've seen this problem over the years with all kinds of headsets even just normal 3.5mm types. I've never had a problem with my headsets because I am pretty careful to wind them up when not in use so they don't ever get tangled up or stretched unduly.
