I had the same problem but fortunately I've found the solution for the problem.

My Monitor is Samsung 22". If install an update for my monitor via windows update where it's located under optional category then this problem occurred.

So don't install any update for your monitor.

AV packages - audio video packages?
Use K-Lite Mega Codec Pack v5.8.3 (Media Player Classic Home Cinema)
The KM Player to watch the video.

If you mean Anti Virus then I use Kaspersky CBE Win 7. Its free and works well.

According to last report; Norton is better than kaspersky. (PCWorld.com)

By the way I'm waiting for the first service pack of Seven.
