If what is written in that article is true regarding manual settings, then quite unfortunate. Concerning the volume rocker, had a feeling moving it down that low could be an issue. Also would have thought the new back make it less slippery, will test it in person but with no manual settings, not sure I will be grabbing the Z5.

If true, then it is a shame. Why use a new and improved sensor and then handicap it with the software.
The camera’s Manual Mode is now useless
Pathetic. 800 ISO in 20.7MP mode is available on my Z3, 3200 in 8MP, while nothing spectacular, if was still nice to be able to select the ISO in 20.7MP mode. Maybe this issue with selecting ISO will be fixed in the November update, but doubtful.
Below I have attached the image from the article posted by MusaD, top to bottom, Z2, Z5, G4. I have brightened the image to see how bad or good the noise and colours are.
I have not altered the images in any other way except reducing them in size, but you can download them yourselves and brighten them up in photoshop or where ever to see the real photos if you do not believe me.
Looking at the 3 images, the lowlight performance of the Z2 and Z5 are poor, G4 is superior.
The settings used:
Z2 - 1/8s , ISO 6400
Z5 - 1/8s, ISO 12800
G4 - 30s , ISO 100
The Z5 photo has way too much noise, expected at IS0 12800, sure it is brighter than the Z2 but it looks like like crap.
Sure the Z5 is using pre-production software and maybe even hardware, but can't foresee Sony improving the image quality that much in the next few weeks.
When we asked the Sony representatives their reasoning behind this limitation, they were at a loss for words before stammering out a rather unbelievable excuse that the sensor could not handle manual ISO at 20 or 23 MP, even though it was no problem at 20.7 MP with the previous Xperia Z devices.
Oh Sony try harder. While my Z3 is fine and serves me well, I may jump ship to the G4 for the camera. Seems LG put a lot more effort into the camera software than Sony has, yet Sony claims their camera is the one of the best in class. The G4 is not that expensive now, if I sell my Z3 dual, I won't have to add much to buy it off plan. hmm.

To make ANY sensible comparison, they should use COMPARABLE shutter speeds.
With
30 seconds of the shutter beeing opened, all of them would perform amazingly.
It's great G4 supports shutter speed setting, but that is not a comparison.
And of course, you just can't compare 100 ISO quality with 12800 unless you're a complete idiot.
So, this comparison is just a bullcr..p

LG is even set to ISO 50.

This guy is an idiot. OF COURSE, with such shutter speeds ANY camera would give black image at ISO 50.

It's an unfair comparison. Nonetheless if it is the auto settings, Lg should be given credit for having a useful image at the expense of time, 30 seconds!
I am kind of pissed with Sony for depending too much on higher ISO settings. With My Z2, the longest shutter speed I got was 1 second and I am quite positive that the Z series cameras would have the same or close quality with the G4 if allowed at such shutter speed.
