@O2

Though generally not one to blow my own trumpet, in this case, yes, I am saying I know better than you. I sell phones to businesses for a living, which means that it is my job to understand what the market wants. I daresay you have absolutely no idea and are talking out of your rear end.

If further evidence were needed, the basis of your argument was that I:

"sound like a girl"

If I ask 20 people about what SE-phone they would wish to buy, the result would be something like:

1 S700 5%
2 K700 10%
6 T630 (T610) 30%
1 Z600 5%
1 Z200 5%
2 T310 10%
7 T230 (T290) 35%

But if I just check the phones of 20 of my friends (and I do know what phones they have):

8 T610/T630 40%
2 Nokia 3200 10%
5 Nokia 3330/3410/3510... (and those types) 25%
1 T65 5%
4 Nokia 5210 20%

People that buy T610/630/N3200 (50%) want those because of the MMS-capabilities. People that buy Nokia 3330/3410/3510 and Ericsson T65 want a phone the can make calls with and send and receive SMSes. My friends with N5210 want it because it endures rougher handling.

And my friends' age group is 25-35. So I know that if you go up 15 years (40-50) the percentage of T65-ish phones is about 75% and from 50 and above almost 100%. This group of people changes their phone less often than youth, but they are a steady market. They don't care about the prize of the phone, they just want a basic/simple phone.

So: Even though camera phones dominate the youngest (15-25) market by maybe 75%, the market for low end phones is still quite big outside this age group and increasing by increasing age. So I support Vlammetje. The market for phones like the two new is present.

@kristaga

Just gotta take issue with one thing mate - you left the P910i off the list that people would have if they could have the phone they wished for. Surely, this not-so-little baby deserves a place somewhere

I had it, but I had to think a bit before deciding to take it away. I consider P800/900/910 to be a phone that maybe 2% would want to buy, to little to show up in my rather unscientific table. I only know one person that has one of these phones, and he is rather distant. It is a very good and advanced phone for the specially interested. I was also unsure if I could have S700 there, but this time I included it...

But why'd they release phone that is in fact t230 just in different package? I thought that model politics sounds more like nokia. This message was posted from a T610

the design of J200/t290 (which are low-end phones) is so similar to K700/K500. this will deprecates the image/value of mid-end phone like K700. Just imagine, a designer brand having 2 items of similar design, one cost 2000, the other 500.

So SE is trying to emulate Nokia here. But unlike Nokia, SE is doing it in all the wrong way.

@vlamm

i will be one of those ten! i am really bitter against at the minute for thinking i am some kind of incompetent arsehole with a carrot stuck up his arse. have started milking us - the s700i price is far to high and i think i wouldnt mind going for the j200 and buying like a proper digital camera aswell.

much better value. god, people are so obsessed with this whole swivel design and 2 in 1 crap. If you were so obsesses about having a good camera, taking a small phone and a little camera would be fine!

but i do think the j200 design is extremely poor. it breaks the trend, i thought they had stopped all this yes/no stuff on the buttons!

A lot of people do want a phone that is _simple_. They are set off by phones that have a lot of functions hence a lot of menu stuff to wade through.

As a buyer of the more expensive kind of phone, I do not mind to see other SE's that are cheaper. I'd prefer to see HUGE LOT of people with SE's over the masses with Nokias. I want a clean environment!

People that bought a T100/T105 or a T230 or before a T200/Z200 just made a good choice. You can't get more style & value for your money.
