@romanu visit www.modaco.com. They can unlock the spv c500, but for approx 30 euros. Maybe there are utilities on the internet that you can use to unluck the spv c500 at home with the help of the included usb cable. Just give a try searching the net.. This message was posted from a Nokia 7650

First if you set a picture as background from the mini-SD card after a phone restart you have to choose the picture again. So, if you wish to use a picture as wallpaper copy it to internaly flash memory.

I've played with spv c500 (with a device with 1 dead pixel, well you can see it only if you 'hard' concentrate). What i got for you, for now:

Bad points (alternative for some):
- the MIDP engine is crap. Almost no game didn't work. About 4 games from 20 worked. I've heard that there is a java engine called jdelta or smth ( u can find it on www.coolsmartphone.com - need to register) but hadn't tested.
But don't forget it's a windows phone, so you can get more quality products (games, apps) than java ones..
- internet explorer: very simple. You don't have the symbian option Find URLs, wich i get used to. I've tried to get a screensaver larger than 10kb from wap.esato.com and IE did'nt load the gif, other with 3kb did load. Another minus is that IE doesn't support frames.
But Opera it's a great replacement for the internet job, but it's not free...
- most included apps (Camera, Video Camera, File Explorer, Windows Media, etc) cannot be closed from the inside of respective app. I have to go to Task Manager and exit the applications from there.
An alternative for this is xBar (xBar 1.0 is free, but newest versions aren't). With xBar you can switch or close the apps like you do with your Symbian S60 phone
- no copy-paste for texts, but you can enable this feature with xBar app.
- quite poor in settings, for eg, you cannot set the contrast, light, etc of the display..
You cannot see a preview when you chose an image as a wallpaper, you have to go in 'Media Album' application for preview..
- you cannot use amr, wav (u need to have strict codec settings if you want to use wavs), mp3 as ringtones
- you cannot send files from "Multimedia Album" by infrared, bluetooth, just by mms and e-mail. Same with "Camera" apps. If you want to send files from the phone to other phone/pc/pda by bluetooth you need a 3dparty program, ex: SmartExplorer
- you can create groups, but you cannot attach specific ringtones for your groups
- you cannot send messages (SMS) to a group, just to a person or multiple persons from your agenda
- the blue keypad it's not that good in dark
- you cannot use multiple buttons at the same time. But you CAN use your joystick and a button simultanly
- there is no GPRS data counter. I've heard that there is a program for this, but it does cost
- there is no sms log manager, like Symbian phones has. There is a call history (logs) only
- you cannot play sounds/music when you are in talking mode. With Symbian phones you can do this...
- maybe more (??)

Good points:
- fast navigation
- friendly UI with costumizable desktop, and shortcuts support
- good camera, makes good pictures when outside. When inside and low light condition the pictures are darkest in comparison to other phone cameras (eg: 7650 camera)
- video recorder is superior in comparison to other phones/smartphones
- the audio quality is very good (better than Nokia phones, eg: 7650, 6600, 3650)
- quality speakerphone with loud volume
- excelent suport for hiqh quality games and programs (like Symbian)
- usefull homescreen (I prefer "Windows default")
- fast transfer between phone and PC with the included USB cable
- suport for external memory (via miniSD, up to 1GB for now)
- harmonic MIDI ringtones, they sound very good, like a T610
- you can use WMA ringtones
- maybe more (??)

In reality the phone has:
- 27,98 MB internal memory
- 23,08 MB RAM, around 10MB avaiable for your programs/games with a clean start-up

I personaly give a 8 from 10 to this phone. It's soo sleck, little and smart... It is compact

@masseur,

if u want to receive files via bluetooth just go to "Settings" then "Beam" then just check the box that says "Receive incoming beams" and you can send stuff from you comp or any other phone

JiggyJaggy yes, u're right, you have to use a 3rd party app for sending via bluetooth to another device, eg Smart Explorer.. This message was posted from a Nokia 7650

Does anyone tried SmartNes? I've tried it on a spv c500 and if sound is on, when i press and hold the navpad to a position (left, right, up, down) the gameplay slowdown very much (in all roms, not in a particular one). If i disable sound the games are working ok This message was posted from a Nokia 7650

@masseur ok man.. .. enjoy your i-mate JAM
PS: but can u write a mini-review about the SP3i, including some informations about battery, performance, hardware, etc ? I doubt you forget all about SP3i and you are talented in writing reviews..
