I also agree and this is why I am using an i-mate JAM because it does provide everything I want in a phone

Nokia is an industry leader for many reasons. They have a wide range of phones that cut across the social strata and across diverse regions and technologies. They have many EDGE capable phones, GPRS, 3G, and even the good old analog phones. SE should learn from Nokia if they ever want to remain relevant in the cellphone market.

To further buttress the point, SE didn't have what I needed for an upgrade to my P800, so I went out and bought myself a 9500 (and it meets my needs just fine).
I am of the opinion that people should be more concerned about finding a gadget that gets their specific needs met rather than hanging on to a brand at all costs.

Don't expect any EDGE phone for Europe from SE!
I spoke to an Ericsson R&D employee few days ago in Uppsala.
Asked him about many things including EDGE in SE phones.
He said that the only reason SE doesn't put EDGE in their phones is POLITICAL.
Putting EGDE in a handset is not really that expensive.
But SE wants to contribute as much as possible to fast evolving 3G networks, where they (and Ericsson) are already in a very good position.
Supproting EDGE in countries with growing 3G will slow down the growth of 3G.
And when 3G starts its domination over GSM, we'll see many nice surprises from SE!

This proves that SE is sticking with 3G in Europe.
Like has already been said. Why would they introduce Edge phones in Europe when so many operators have spent so much money on 3G.
Did he say anything else to you?

My impression was that Ericsson is really hoping for leadership in 3G. The things with Ericsson as a network supplier are going pretty well currently. He said that the company that comes up with an application comparable (in impact) to SMS in GSM will become the 3G leader. There are many new patents for new applications in 3G right now, but future is of course not very clear and rivals are not sleeping too.

In Belgium Mobistar announced they have edge almost ready over the whole network and will continue to support it alongside 3G.
In an interview in this weekend's newspaper the big chief of Mobistar said that EDGE was easy and cheap to roll out and that there's a market for it even next to 3G.
