Has anyone done this?
I want to share internet connection with two lappys via wifi. One should be in the sitting room with the phone while the other in any other room.
I have connected via a dial-up to the internet. I want to use wireless connection to browse with a second lappy. Both have wifi and I have created an "ad-hoc" home network connection between them. The lappy with vista is the one connecting to the 'net while the other is using XP. The ad-hoc network seems ok... since I see files in the XP from the vista lappy.
I know about ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) using a LAN but this one is giving me a tough time.
Anyone tried it before?
You should enable internet connection sharing (ICS) and choose your wireless connection for sharing. Allow the wireless connection from the guest laptop to get IP address via DHCP (ie automatically). I do this with my wife's starcomm's phone and our laptops once in a while and it works.

@coola: i'm going to get you ejected from this island! How can u go for chinese? Most people that do, do it bcos of all the gadgets they have, but since they rarely use them, the phones tend to last (with no drops, spillages etc) for 6 months or so. But if u task ur phone to the hilt, it wont last 3 months.
When i tried a similar wifi connection, my problem was i ddnt properly make the phone on the modem a server while the other laptop its client/slave. As always, check online.

He-he-he... na money cause am. I have equally met those who have used their phones for close to two years!

I tried and tried... no show.
Here is how I am using it in my office: I am currently using the lappy to connect via wifi to the office internet connection and then sharing the internet with my desktop using a network cable (cross-cable).
So the lappy is the ICS host and the desktop is the guest. Both are using XP and it is working well. I had thought the same principle should work with two lappy's using wifi. I think it must be a XP vs. Vista thing. Or I should create the ad-hoc network using the XP lappy (the host) and not the Guest lappy running Vista as I did. Oh well... back to google.
In other news...
>> Visafone now has 1.2m subs. Who can predict how long before they overtake Zoom/Starcomms?
>> Meanwhile Multi-links has pulled all the stops! I saw them selling their phones for -wait for it- ONE THOUSAND BUCKS only. I saw their marketers shouting themselves hoarse near a market here in Abuja. Be prepared for a surprise when they next announce their subscriber numbers.
>> I heard that DAAR SAT is set to start tomorrow. Not that it matters to me. I don't own a TV sef how much more Satellite.
>> Finally a controversy is brewing over NigComSat's plan to jump into the Telecom business as ANOTHER Government-owned Company. NITEL Part 2.

So Nokia have finally seen the light

saw years ago.
Touch screen is the future of phones.
