Well, did you confirm the current price of the Mogul?

@all: Getting activated for the daily 50MB plan has become very challenging these days that one requires trailer loads of patience. Last Saturday, I requested for activation by 11am and only got activated by 5pm. Six hours later!!! Also, for most part of yesterday I couldn't connect to use up my 50MB.
Anyone with similar experience?

The best pda can only be used for things on small scales, short e-mails, a few lines of notes, posting on forums like this, few minutes of restricted browsing. If you are a truly mobile professional who need to be productive on the go, what you need is a sub notebook with embedded 3g.

Speak for yourself. I am truly a mobile professional, and I do not carry a sub notebook around, yet I am more productive on the move than most people are at their desks.

A little poll is appropriate here. Who among us here has typed 3 full A4 pages of text on our pda/phone, feels that his phone is as good as any laptop in web browsing, who sends "full" multi-page e-mail with attachments on his phone etc.

What's the poll going to achieve? Help re-define how I use my mobile devices? Help tell the manufacturers to cut down on the market prices of their devices?

I use my smartphones extensively in more ways and for more things than you probably suppose. And I'm not complaining.

Now, if you find smartphones as mere toys, please by all means restrict yourself to the sub-80 categories. Those who find some extra utility in the heavier devices are just as free to spend their money on them.

pxthomas: That's all I know about it. Removing the memory card often causes files saved on the card to disappear. More like, deleted.

Alright, no need to vex. I will take your word for it! Though, I stand by my assertion that no pda can be adequate for a truly mobile professional. That is why UMPC (ultramobile pcs, OQO, HTC Shift etc ) and netbooks (like the Eee) are all the rage nowadays. And that is why sub notebooks are premium products because they are made for people for whom a computer on the go is not an option.

A poll will help us to assess how the average joe on this board uses his pda phones.

I will never dispute your assertion because I simply dont know you well enough to judge your personality. What I know however, is that many people bring forth this kind of argument for two reasons; 1.) To justify to themselves and others the huge amount of money they spend on buying their expensive toys. And 2.) To be able to persuade their rich clients that buying ultra-expensive phones is not a waste of money.

On a final note, I noticed your propensity to move from one phone to the other over short periods (just like I do) and that is proof positive of people who see their gadgets as toys. If you truly use your phones for work, I'm sure you will change them less often.

There's no vexation there. You will take my word, but still stand by your assertion? Please make up your mind.

A poll of married couples will also help us to access how the average joe treats his wife. And even if that poll returns a result that says most men treat their wives bad, it won't change the fact that I treat my wife well. The majority ain't necesarilly right.

Well, then you admit that you are speaking for others; and cannot speak for me or make assertions that question my submissions. Thankfully, I am not like those "many" people.

Two people may follow similar paths for two very different reasons. My changing smartphones at intervals is NOT proof any such thing. Of course, if your knowledge of how I work is limited, it is easy for you to assume that it is proof.

I could change my smart devices every day and it would have zero impact on my work. Ever heard of web-based apps, web-based storage, and web-based services? Much of my work are based on those. That means all I need is a capable browser (on PC, laptop or PDA), and I'm good to go.

PS: Maybe we should also include in that poll fields to find out how many people on this forum work with web apps and services too?

By the way, I change devices often also because I work in the industry and need to be up-to-date about what's gwan.

So, sir, if you are speaking about the majority of people, I agree with you. But most of my life, I have been different from the majority. Cheers.

@adrusa: I've seen a couple of ads here. Something in the range of N5,500 for a monthly subscription. No details though, as I really didn't give the ads more attention.

MTN 3G services here in Ibadan is very commendable, the Internet speed is fast enough. I am very impressed, so much that I am actually considering making MTN my main line. Does anyone know what the call rates are for MTN postpaid services?
