I'm really impressed with Sony Ericsson right now. The x10 is my first Sony device, and immediately I didn't like it at first. It was painfully slow and had bad battery life. Then I discovered this wonderful forum, read through, managed to root the device and uninstall moxier and face regonition. Removing face recognition is the single biggest improvement you can do to the X10 as it was constantly using over 20 percent cpu all the time!. I now love it, its fast, battery life is quite good now. Struggle sometimes due to low amount of ram, but advanced task killer widget quickly makes the phone fast again
But then Sony said they weren't upgrading past Android 2.1 and I hated Sony. I swore never to buy a Sony phone again because alternative phones that were avilable as as upgrade to me when I brought the x10 all got upgraded to 2.2 or some now 2.3. The samsung galaxy s 2 was going to be my next phone, but whilst I like technology and high end features, design I rank above functionality, vain I guess! The Arc is the most beautiful phone I've ever laid eyes on and I gotta have one, now Sony looks like they've changed their ways. Any one wanna buy an X10, unbranded, unlocked, mint condition

?

@danman7_200 hah, I'm trying to get rid of my X10 too. I love it but could do with a couple extra pounds towards my arc purchase. I'm actually tempted to not sell it at all. I wouldn't be disappointed if no one met my valuation.
Did you try any of the custom ROMs over on xda? After trying those I'm certain the X10 is still an absolute killer of a phone. I'd stay with my X10 if arc wasn't like sex.

@danman7_200
Sony Ericsson is going to release an Andorid 2.3 update for X10.
It is not quite soon but it is going to be updated and design wise it rocks all the phones in the market IMO

Ok, I've had it with the newest update. I think I've used dual touch ONCE when trying it out in google maps, and as I don't speak any Arab language, nor Thai, there's really no use for me.
So, seeing as it kills my battery AND made the Phone exruciatingly slow;
Is there any way to back one update? I'm on generic Nordic btw.

Recently, I read that Xperia x10 is going to get the new Android Gingerbread Update. while I'm sort of happy with hearing that, but I'm also disappointed in the we losing, something about removing face recognition, timscape and mediascape. I wonder if the Gingerbread update will make x10 looks like just any other Android phone out there. I wonder if it will still retain that SE look, the screens, buttons, icons, and overall interactive. I recently installed Arc Launcher and loved it. looks so much cleaner and nicer than the old launcher for the Xperia x10. I'm guessing Arc and Neo, with it's gingerbread android version, still retains the SE look? Hopefully I can do the same for my x10.
Another thing, with supposedly the x10 Bootloader is finally cracked, what can I do with it. I'm seriously ignorant about this. explain to me what is the benefit and compare that to the Gingerbread update.

@Big_D the gingerbread update will be basically a port of what you see on arc. It will definitely retain the SE look and feel. You can timescape also will be there but it's it's new iteration (see arc) and the media functions will be implemented the same way as in arc, which is better if you ask me.
When they say you'll lose face recognition I think they mane the face recognition that is integrated into mediascape (which is getting removed) for 'auto-tagging' of your photos with known friend's faces, rather than the focusing on faces in the camera (I may be wrong). This isn't a bad thing, as every knows the face recognition software slows the phone down terribly and few people use it.
Overall I don't think there's any bad news in the 2.3 update coming to the X10, it's fantastic news.
With the bootloader being by-passed there will be more custom ROMs with FULL functionality, and lifting of the some the SE enforced limitations, such as the 30FPS cap and the lack of 16million colours. You need to find a dev who's doing that sort of stuff and download their ROMs to take advantage of it. In the future, if someone can be bothered to write it, we might see tools that will customise these functions in a simple GUI but don't count on it. Compared to the official gingerbread update that depends on what SE include, they may find that with the optimisation and generally faster OS they can free up CPU to deal with the 16m colours and higher frame-rates and thereby lift those in the official update ...or they may not.
@roanmy you can go back to an older FW version if you go to xda (I'll dig out links later, I'm in a hurry to go out now) and root your device and manually flash it. SE don't provide a way to downgrade.

Come on XDA devs.I want a full functioning Gingerbread ROM for my X10.I'm not to keen on putting a SE Gingerbread ROM on my phone just because of the speed you get from a clean basic custom ROM (not that I'm not going to give it a test ride). I don't care about if it just looks like another Android phone out there.With the ability to theme,change fonts,customise with different launchers, your phone can look pretty unique with a bit of creativity.Waiting......waiting......waiting.......Thought we'd see fireworks after bypassing that damn bootloader but there seems to be a lot of testing that needs to be done.This phone still has some mileage in it if I say so myself.No need to upgrade.
