how's the start up speed for the camera? do you need to unlock it to activate it? or is it like the C905?

Yes, you have to unlock it to use the camera.

I've got my silver w995 and love it! You do need to unlock the phone to use the camera, but it unlocks when you slide the open the phone. I've got allocated the up shortcut on the dial for the camera for quickness. The camera is much better than my last C510, not quite as good as K800i as far as the flash goes but still very good. Music brilliant, fast wifi, great video. Couldn't be happier!
