Digi-wo quotes a source blogger for posting some of z4 tablet final spec:
10.1-inch 2K IPS
Qualcomm 810
4GB RAM
32GB ROM
Android L
IP68
Capless Micro-USB waterproof
Colors: black, white and gold.

link: http://www.digi-wo.com/thread-28059-1-1.html

if true, we can expect z4 to have this basic spec as well.
nice to see 4 gb of ram.

^ I still hope the Z4 comers with a 1080p display rather the 2K.

1080p + SD810 + 3400 mAh battery (rumored) + Sony's market leading battery tech = an insane level of endurance.

@XperiaJunkie
I think that there need to be freedom of choice - retailers should offer BOTH versions and let the consumer choose between 1080p and 2k. if sony can match z3 battery life, steady performance and no related overheating while having 2k display i wouldn't mind 2k at all as the only available version.

You guys want a struggling maker to release their latest product with an older tech?

1080p screen =/= older tech.
The 1080p display could use an all manner of newer technologies for better colour reproduction, higher contrast, better power efficiency, higher maximum brightness, lower minimum brightness etc. etc.

Resolution isn't everything. Particularly when 2K offers no practical advantage over 1080p apart from requiring more energy to run. 2K is perfectly fine if they can manage to aget it to perform as well as a 1080p panel without any increase in power consumption.

I agree on not much point for 2K technically, but Sony's major weakness is marketing and marketing needs some eye catching spec or something else that can overtake spec. are you suggesting Sony to continue the weak marketing trend?

Correct 1080p is not equal to old tech BUT here is a thought experiment :

Layman walks into Carphone Warehouse
Layman: Is this Sony screen better than that non-Sony one?
Clerk: Well that has Triluminous Quatumn Laser Dots and that one has SuperHero AMOLEDs made from Superman's tears.
Layman: ??? What do either of those do?
Clerk: The Sony lasers make the individual pixels brighter or darker to suit the colour of your skin and balance it against the lunar cycle to make sure it looks awesome. The Superhero AMOLEDs have your favourite superhero fly forwards round the Earth (into the future) to see what the weather is tomorrow then fly back and set your screen brightness remotely whilst you're sleeping, so the next day your phone doesn't hurt your eyes.
Layman (confused): What's the resolution difference?
Clerk: That has twice as many pixels as the Sony.
Layman: You can put the Sony back and assign me a superhero

Granted the details are exaggerated but to a layman that's what it actually sounds like.

I tried to explain pixel dimming to my father and got nothing. I tried to my educated friends and got "but does it connect to my iTunes?". Outside of these (and similar) forums, these things mean nothing.

Seems like Sony will use mediatek's high-end chip in one of their smart phone models.

EEtimes wrote:
The next catalyst for MediaTek’s sales growth will come during February and March with design wins based on the company’s new LTE products, with the higher-end MT6795 designed into smartphones from 20 Chinese brands as well as HTC and Sony, according to Abrams. Mediatek will also have refresh models supporting LTE and introduce a new premium chip, the MT6796 fabricated on 20nm design rules in the fourth quarter of this year, he said.
