Woo! The master reset I've done after installing 037 seems to have done the trick and the Gmail app has now downloaded successfully and installed - and even better is now K850i compatible. It's great to have it working again, even just for the little features like turning numbers (even in +44(0)7... etc format) turned into clickable links.

One thing I've notcied on Google Maps though is that the 'my location' function doesn't seem to work on the K850i yet it does on the K800i! Will check out the Google discussion forums re this.

Now can't wait for newer f/w to hopefully fix all the other issues!

Alan

Found something really annoying the other week whilst away jet setting accros the big pond...

To tun the phone onto flight mode or back tp phone mode you have to turn the phone off and back on again! (thus having to put all your pin numbers in again!!)
Surley SE can make it a shortcut option or in the profile options when you press the power button for a short push.

Sorry for rant but it was annoying having to tun off then on then off and on and off and on all the bloody time!!!

Yes this is unfortunate, but this option can only be found in phones that run off an operating system. Sony Ericsson A100/200 phones can only switch in between flight/normal operations by turning the phone off/on. Their Symbian phones can switch it on or off while the phone is running.

R1DA038 does seem to be a new version of software for the K850i. From what i understand its not just a vf version, however it may not be released for the other networks as i understand that there isnt much of a difference with R1CA037 and R1DA038

As mentioned on hear, lots of people updated there VF branded phones to R1CA037 and the phones became like Generics (Icon all gone back to way SE did them), however as this is not in line with VF, the firmware was removed very quickly when they found out and a new firmware was placed on the net with in 24 hours.

** Who says SE dont read these forums **

The newfirmware for the K850i is due in late Jan to early Feb 2008.

From what i beleive, the new firmware will resolve several major bugs, phone speed, camera issues and many more things.

If and when i find out more i will let you know.

Oh and i got a brand new phone in end from o2. w47 and the phone is amazingly different to all the other 4 i have had.
Build quality is much better, batter door fits perfect, touch keypad buttons are superb and you never have to duplicate by pressing again.
phone doesnt creak either.

So im hoping that this one lasts:-)

SE and mobile manufactures do read these type of forums, Esato is a well established forum and a popular one on the internet.

When people write things on hear and if they are major SE do take note (developers read these type of forums to see what the customer needs are and what the faults are)

That doesnt mean to say that every thing will get corrected.

How do you think SE learn about most of the faults and that is the same with Nokia and other mobile forums.

I know that people on hear from SE read these as on the SE forum I see things that are wrote on hear one day are there on there own forum shortly after.

Who best than thge public to test things and then report back

Well, I just found another "defect" today, not sure if it is one, but it seems on some phones the backlight LEDs arent being controlled properly... when the brightness goes down, one of the LED's stays bright (particularly the one on the top left of the d-pad) and it gets annoying at times...

Or it could be the one to the top right of the d-pad that doesn't have its brightness being controlled properly, because it is a LOT dimmer than the rest. Meh, I'm unsure, but turning up the brightness makes the backlighting problem a lot less apparent. Pics to follow.

So far both the K850i's I've had are inconsistent in these "bugs/build qualities". Getting frustrated =/

Easiest way is to know is like for example The vf firmware.

They placed it on the R1CA037 one evening, many people updated and placed comments on hear like you do saying what had happened. By the end of the day, the firmware was removed and the following day R1DA038 was on there so the phones could update again and this time the icons are back.

I do know that SE read these forums and other compaines and networks do as well. Its free and good feedback for them.
